I was out of town on vacation. My home Pilates club (Bodybar Pilates) does not have a franchise near where I was staying, so I decided this was the closest thing to back home (we also have Club Pilates back home, but I had never been, but it's also a franchise, like my home club). The club was clean and everyone was friendly. The machines are only reformers, they are not the Cadillac version that includes the tower (like I have at my club) and instead Club Pilates has a TRX, ballet bar, and tons of equipment that can be used in addition to the reformer. 1st class - CP Reformer Flow 1 - this was very similar to my classes back home and I loved it. The instructor was Christine and she was very friendly and great with corrections. My favorite class. It was a reformer only, slow, long stretch class. 2nd class - Dottie - CP Cardio Sculpt 1.5. This was my first class using the reformer and springboard. It was a solid (almost) 50 minutes of constant activity. Lots of jumps and leg splits on the reformer (holding hand weights), laying down, using the springboard. I had to plan my Pilates classes around seeing family and friends during my Christmas break and this is not a class I would have normally chosen, but decided to try it. I was exhausted and sweaty at the end of class. My least favorite class but only based on my fondness for slow stretching on the reformer vs. intense cardio. Side note- with a name like Dottie, I was expecting a woman in her early 60's vs. a beautiful young woman in her early 20's. I think I was thinking with a name like Dottie, it would be a class that would be slow. :-) She was wonderful though and great with corrections, just too much cardio for me. 3rd class - Mike - CP Control 1.5. This class was like having Joseph Pilates himself there in person training. Or what I imagine he'd be like. Mike told a lot about the history of Pilates, about the importance of anatomy, and why Pilates is superior to other forms of exercise. The class started of with moves on the reformer I've never done before, lot of leg and foot strengthening and stretching. The foot mobility one was great! The second part of class was exercises on the mat or laying down on the reformer long box doing chest presses, or standing up on the mat doing lunges, squats, etc. Mike's attention to detail to correct everyone was fantastic. You would think you'd be doing the exercise correctly, he'd correct you, and suddenly you'd feel the burn where you should. These exercises were gym based and I like Pilates for the reforming/tower stretching/lengthening/muscle building aspects, so this was another class that was not for me. I left with my thighs sore and the next day my calves were sore. Mike made sure we definitely got a good workout! All in all Club Pilates is a good option for you if you want tons of variety in the form of Pilates classes (on the reformer with mat work with weights) but aren't the reformer plus tower only Pilates fan like me. Also - I was late to getting my classes requested through the app, so I was on a wait list for two of the three classes. One class I just registered on the app, then showed up in person and sat there. At 5 minutes after class started, two people didn't show up, so I was able to slide in and join the class. For the 2nd wait list class, I signed up about 15 hours before and later on that night I received and email saying I was IN! This studio books up quickly, but don't be afraid to join the wait list, because the odds are people won't show up and you will get a spot (assuming you are 1 or 2 on the wait list).
