Frequently Asked Questions About Gate Dental Clinic
What is a dental implant?
Dental implants are the closest option to replacing your natural teeth. Similar to a real tooth, a dental implant has two parts: the root, which is below the gum line, and the visible tooth above the gum. While natural teeth are made of enamel, dental implants have a titanium base that is anchored in the jaw and a porcelain crown above the gum, designed to match the color of your natural teeth.
At Gate Clinic, we use titanium implants which are very strong, resists corrosion, and is well-accepted by the body.
After the implant is placed in your jaw, your bone and gum will heal around it, a process that takes about three to six months. Once the implant is fully integrated, a porcelain crown is attached on top. The connector, called an abutment, can be made from titanium or zirconium, which is tooth-colored for a more natural look.
Do I need to have someone come with me to my Dental Sedation appointment?
Yes, you must have a responsible adult, over the age of 18, to pick you from your dental procedure and they must stay with you for the 24hrs after completion of your dental treatment. Also you cannot drive or operate any machinery for 24hrs post procedure,so your escort must be responsible for your travel home. Without an escort, the dentist cannot proceed with your treatment as a safety measure.
How long do the effects of dental sedation last?
The sedation effects will start to fade about an hour after your treatment is done, but it will take until the next morning about 24 hours after your procedure for the sedation to fully wear off. Be sure to follow the aftercare instructions your dentist gives you, including any advice about supervision and what activities to avoid during this time.
Will I remain awake during conscious sedation?
Dental sedation keeps you awake during your treatment, but you’ll feel very relaxed, almost like you’re in a dream, not like general anesthesia, which puts you into a deep sleep. Time will seem to fly by, and many patients say they feel like they've just woken up from a refreshing nap once the sedation wears off.
General anesthesia is only offered in hospitals, which often means long waiting times, especially for routine procedures. It also takes longer to recover from, with some lingering effects. That’s why dental conscious sedation is a great, safe option for patients who are anxious about dental work and need quality treatment now, whether it’s restorative, preventive, or cosmetic.
Is IV dental sedation considered safe?
It's crucial to answer all questions honestly during your initial consultation and inform your dentist of any changes in your medical history or medications. Certain patients, such as those who are pregnant, have respiratory issues, high blood pressure, or severe systemic diseases, should not undergo IV sedation, so it's important to disclose this information when asked.
