Does Purple Toothpaste Work?
Purple toothpaste utilizes dental color correcting technology similar to that of purple shampoo. On the color wheel, yellow and purple are opposite of each other, making them complementary colors. In theory, when those colors mix, the purple color of the toothpaste neutralizes the yellow color of the enamel giving the illusion of whiter teeth. Unlike traditional whitening toothpaste, which can use mild abrasives and/or hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth, purple toothpaste employs color theory to create a temporary illusion of brighter teeth.
If you are wanting to brighten your smile quickly for a special occasion a purple toothpaste may be a good solution for you. If this is something you decide to use on a daily basis, we would highly recommend you find a brand that contains fluoride in it.
If whiter teeth are really your goal, we would recommend a professional whitening system. Here at Maas Family Dental PC, we have several different systems to choose from depending on what your goals are. Feel free to reach out to us with any questions you may have for a whiter brighter smile. We are a dentist office in the Cedar Rapids, IA area you can rely on for your dental care!
