Tobias went above and beyond. Did the tour with me. I had the last slot of the day booked and couldn’t make it on start time due to my train being delayed, was happy to stay on late to accommodate for me. Didn’t rush it, still took the time to show me around properly and talk me through everything. Excellent customer service and a setting the tone for the type of service David Lloyd are known for up-keeping.

I've been a member of David Lloyd Worthing for a while and there are definitely some positives, but unfortunately the negatives now outweigh them, which is why I've decided to leave and return to Fit4.
The biggest positive by far is the front-of-house team. They are always friendly, polite and welcoming. Every visit starts with a smile and they're always happy to help. They genuinely make members feel welcome and are easily the best part of the club.
Unfortunately, my experience with other areas of the business hasn't been as positive.
One of my biggest frustrations was regarding my child's membership. When my circumstances changed, I was no longer able to bring my child swimming due to work commitments and scheduling. I asked if they could be removed from my membership and was told this wasn't possible. Months later, after paying around £300 for a membership that wasn't being used, I received a call just two weeks before my cancellation date to tell me they could in fact be removed. That left a very bitter taste.
Communication from management has also been poor. Emails often go unanswered for weeks, forcing members to chase responses by phone. Even then, getting through can be difficult, with phone lines frequently unavailable. For a premium-priced club, this level of customer service simply isn't good enough.
The facilities themselves are also inconsistent. The jacuzzi is often only lukewarm rather than properly hot, and the steam room regularly has the same issue. The kitchen has been unavailable on numerous occasions and whenever I've asked staff when it would be reopening, nobody has been able to give a clear answer.
The gym itself is also incredibly busy. Unless you're willing to train at 6am or late in the evening, you're often left waiting for equipment or having to change your workout because machines and benches are occupied. For a gym that charges such a premium, I'd expect a better member-to-equipment ratio and a more comfortable training environment during normal hours.
Another issue is the attitude of some of the outdoor pool staff. Lifeguards often appear disengaged, spending more time looking at the floor than actively supervising the pool. However, they seem very quick to challenge members over minor issues. On one occasion I was standing at the edge of the pool talking to my children while keeping a constant eye on them, only to be spoken to as though I was doing something wrong. When you're paying a premium membership fee, you expect staff to engage with members respectfully rather than creating unnecessary confrontation.
What ultimately made my decision easy was the cost. Membership for my partner and I costs £278 per month, plus £39 per month for each child. When you look at what you're actually getting for that money, it's difficult to see enough of a difference between David Lloyd and other local gyms to justify the price. I've decided to return to Fit4, where I was previously a member for several years. Membership there costs £72.50 per month for both of us combined. The facilities are spread across different sites, but the service has always been excellent and the overall value for money is significantly better.
David Lloyd markets itself as a premium club, and at these prices members should receive a premium experience. Unfortunately, between the poor communication, inconsistent facilities, membership issues and some disappointing staff interactions, that hasn't been my experience.
The reception team deserve genuine praise for the work they do, but overall I often felt like I was paying a premium price for an experience that didn't consistently deliver premium service.

I am extremely disappointed with the current state of the female changing rooms at David Lloyd Worthing. For some time now, there has been a leak from the ceiling, with a towel hanging down from it — I have no idea what purpose this serves, and it looks unprofessional and unhygienic.
To make matters worse, the floor is constantly wet and overflowing, and the area smells strongly of sewage. This is completely unacceptable for a health club, and it is shocking that this has not been addressed or fixed despite being an ongoing issue.
I also have serious concerns about pool hygiene. The bottom of the swimming pool is frequently littered with discarded plasters. I would strongly urge David Lloyd to send a reminder to all members about basic hygiene and safety:
- A plaster should typically be worn for around two hours for a small wound, then removed to allow the area to air and dry.
- Elderly members, or anyone with an open wound, should avoid swimming until the wound has fully healed.
- Anyone with an illness or who is leaking any bodily fluid that could be contagious should not use the pool or water facilities for the safety of all members.
These are basic health and safety standards that David Lloyd should be enforcing. The current conditions are unhygienic, potentially hazardous, and far below what I expect from a premium gym membership.

Quite disappointed by the membership options and nobody from the Site was willing to help me or for that matter even wanting to. I currently am a platinum member and went into inquire and visit the club to look at the children’s facilities in view of adding my daughter who is less than one year-old to my membership so that in the summer we could use the facilities.
The receptionist was quite kind however the membership advisor didn’t want to waste a single second talking to me knowing that I wasn’t going to gain a sale. It turns out that if you are a platinum membership at an adult only Site you can’t add a child to your membership to use a different site that isn’t your home. Even though I was actually trying to give David Lloyd more money, the computer said no. I could however have my daughter go into Worthing David Lloyd at a cost of £6 which I’m not going to do very disappointing.
