My eyes had deteriorated since my last eye test and I struggled to read the letters and complete my test. The optician was very rude to me because of this, she kept telling me to read the letters which I explained I couldn't see, but she continued to ask anyway. She then told me to guess the letters, which my reply was again, I cant see them. She explained that i needed to be referred for different care on my one eye. I couldn't wait to leave her room. I felt very upset

back for another annual test this year to Vision Express Worcester Crown gate branch. Last year’s test was very good and I had confidence in the test and result. This year’s test was terrible and I have no faith in the results at all. I was asked to arrive early so that any paperwork could be done before my test. I arrived at about 2.15 for a 2.30 appointment. Fortunately, I had arrived with a paperback…Nothing happened until after 2.30 when the pre-tests were done. I am used to having scans once or twice a year, as Mr Calladine looks after my glaucoma, so I was not surprised when I had a soft sell on paying for the premium service, which I declined. However, the method of doing a pre-test with a picture of house was a bit surprising. Then a short wait (more book), and I was called in by the optician Rehman Alam. He was a nice chap, but I didn’t really understand his choice of words saying so this is how sharp I can make your sight….it felt more like a sales examination rather than any optician appointment I have ever had. It was clear that my right eye was the better of the two, with the left eye being worse. I always like to know how the prescription differs from last year…at one point in my life my prescriptions were changing at least one dioptre (?) every three months. That’s when the smoke and mirrors began. He insisted on setting me up with lenses that made my vision look like blurred double vision…I have no idea why. He then also insisted on showing me how blurred my vision was without any correction. Why, as I always wear glasses when I drive, but not when not driving. In 72 years of having corrected vision no one has ever felt the necessity to show me how bad my eyesight is when uncorrected? Prior to (lens corrected) cataracts removed my spectacle lenses were around -12 and getting worse. Since, I do not need glasses for most of the day apart from driving, I still do not understand what the purpose was of showing me blurred vision. He never did tell me how much worse than last year’s this year’s prescription was. I really felt I was being over sold a product. Outside the assistant to advise on spectacles etc was very personable and did tell me how my eyes had changed (very little). I don’t seem to have that prescription, but the 2024 prescription was Right -.50 sph, -0.50 cyl Left -1.0 sph -.50 cyl. This new prescription is right -0.75 sph -0.50 cyl, and left -1.50 sph, -0.25 cyl. There was a suggestion that my current spectacles were not up to the current driving standards. I have used the standard eye standards using a standard rear yellow rear number at 20 m. I pass with flying colours! Just to check I found that my current lenses are good for over 30 metres!! I have a bad taste in my mouth brought on by the sales process and falsehoods I was subjected to by this “eye test”. I actually feel abused! I feel so strongly about this I am going to find out if I can report this practise to the NHS. Needless to say, I will not be using this opticians again. That was my mistake.
