Normally Wyre Forest LC is fabulous with very helpful staff and lovely cafe.Unfortunately yesterday on 2nd Sept it had not been taken into account that schools were not returning until 3rd Sept..The entrance was rammed with elderly people in lycra all waiting fir sessions and in the cafe area. Also the main pool had 3 lanes roped off for length swimmers(some elderly people just standing talking in the slow lane )while the small area of the main pool was left fir the rest of us.This comprised people with children who were nit yet back at school, disabled people with carers, small children who coukdnt swim at all, people playing ball,noodles...it was a nightmare and certainly no space to enjoy at all.If even one of the roped off lanes had been removed it woukd be better. There was only one man in the fast lane fir mist if the time and about 5 older people between the 2 other lanes.
I did ask at the desk what on earth was going on as we had an awful time.Forunately we did manage to get a table in thd cafe as all the elderly oeople had gone when we finished changing.
I'm 72 myself and have nothing against swimming &activities fir everyone but thus was ridiculous as after 3rd Sept all thise children are now in school!!!-while the elderly have the rest of their lives to book sessions.
I had emailed the centre to ask why there were no afternoon slots, which us when we would have booked, but nobody replied to me.The staff member I complained to said there had been a mix up about the schools going back.Nobody from schools goes swimming in the first week back in Sept anyway,so that seemed silly as the pools were all empty as we left-with certainly no schools in them.
It was a complete waste of money and possibly dangerous to treat us all like sardines. We have visited the centre about 4 tines during the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it,the pool, the cafe and the staff.Yesterdays bad experience should have been avoided by not starting senior sessions until the schools were back or only having one lane for lane swims or 2 at the most.

I haven't been going here long, but i really enjoy the place. Daniel the gym coach is lovely, as are the ladies on reception, Nick and co at climbing wall, and both pilates instructors Tracy and Victoria. Plenty of classes for a wide range of people, young and old, and everyone has been welcoming so far.
The two instructors from Rockstart were also very encouraging when i became scared and tapped out of the session.
The only reason it isnt five stars is because of an experience last Friday; something was burning in the women's room, like an electrical/plastic smell. We went to get someone to check it out and the lifeguard who offered to check it out was very dismissive and he outright said he couldnt smell anything despite four people from both changing rooms all telling him they could smell burning coming from the women's room. The other lady present said he was still being dismissive after I left and she had to keep telling him there was a burning smell. Someone suggested he was high or sleep-deprived because of the way he was acting then and beforehand (which i had also noticed when he was at the lockers before I went into the women's room). Heavy eyes, slow speech, etc, very stoner-like.
