Disappointed I was due to join David Lloyd Reading on 1 October 2026. As I was unable to cancel my existing gym membership, the club agreed that I could defer my joining date until 1 January 2027. However, after receiving an email advising that the club would be closing for refurbishment, I emailed the club on 26 September to say that I no longer wished to join. I then called the club on 28 September and was assured that my cancellation request would be processed. I confirmed this again by email. Despite this, a direct debit was subsequently taken from my account, even though I had clearly requested cancellation and had been assured that this would be dealt with. What is particularly disappointing is that the refurbishment was never mentioned during my tour of the club. This was especially relevant as the member of staff I dealt with knew that I was planning to move my two young children to the club to attend swimming lessons. I have now emailed requesting a refund of the money taken and am awaiting a response. Overall, I feel this does not portray the level of customer service or communication I would expect from David Lloyd Clubs. I hope the matter is resolved promptly and that the money taken is refunded. I have been a member at the Newcastle club 20 years ago , the Speke club when at university in Liverpool and have always had a good service. This falls far below what I’d expect from a David Lloyd club

Good club, friendly staff, although it sometimes does smell strongly of sewage.

Lauren and Josh were absolutely exceptional, so kind, patient and helpful! I accidentally locked my bag inside my locker with the key to my padlock inside the bag 😭, and they spent around 25 minutes helping me until they cut through the padlock. I’m forever grateful and so thankful for all your help, including the lovely lady at the reception desk who helped as well. I’m also very sorry for all the trouble I caused 😭😂. You were all incredibly patient with me and made a stressful situation so much easier. Any enquiries regarding bolt cutters, please go to Lauren and Josh 😂😂. Absolute lifesavers!

Had a fab show around at David Lloyd Reading yesterday. We were greeted by Dani on reception who was a lovely, welcoming personality and then guided around the facilities by Will, who not only answered all and every question my wife and I directed his way but was also fantastic at making sure we found the right membership option for our blended family. Absolutely ecstatic to be starting our family's fitness and wellness journey here in September, the range of facilities is fantastic but the staff really made it for us.
