Joined up my 21 and 16 year old up for the two week £35 trial membership which they were really excited about. I was a member there from 2016 to 2018 and we were looking at a new family membership. Why they do these trials is beyond me, as you are treated like a 2nd class citizen and frankly made to feel unwelcome. We signed them up in the morning, i dropped my son down hours later and he couldnt access the gym or go in as they were were short staffed and hadnt activated his account , my daughter was ok to use. No help , just a really unfriendly welcome and introduction to the place for my son. Essentially i was told to go away and travel back home by a female with black hair and glasses on reception who was frosty , unwelcoming and unfriendly. What a welcome for a keen ,sporty 16 year old. So we went home ! A much friendlier female then rang me at home and activated his account so i drove him back.
Both my two kids were given free towels to use two days running and on his third visit the same female with glasses and dark hair gave my son a towel but then called him back and charged him £2 as towels not included in the trial membership, made him look foolish and he had to call me to tranfer him £2. Well done on that member of staff ! He didnt want to go again due to this but i have made him go again to use trial period. No consistency amongst staff and calling back a 16 year old and charging him for a towel shocking after he had been given free ones. Petty.
Daughter said some machines and cardio dirty and not working and she wasnt keen on using the sauna facilities !! So never did.
I am actually quite glad they had a trial offer as its done the reverse and made us join another local facility / club. A warm welcome and welcoming young people into your facility shoulf be a given.

The front desk are rude and inflexible. Overpay for poor customer service. Also impossible to get anyone to answer the phone any time of day you can easily wait 15+ minutes and get no answer.
I have decided to cancel due my experience with the staff but also the poor condition of the gym. There is a 3 month notice period which is an absolute scam. After circa 10 years of membership this is how you get treated. I have raised complaint with the gym about this notice and await a positive response.
There are several local gyms such as Virgin, Liberty Leisure that offer a better experience for a fraction of the price.

Quite dissapointing really. I've been a member at Solihull, for almost three months. When they are trying to get you signed up they will constantly speak to you and respond to your messages quickly, but be warned, this stops once you are a member.
I signed up to a three months personal training package (minimum term) and have one month to go. I was advised of the monthly cost but the first month I was charged too much. I couldn't get anyone to speak to me (I think they are afraid of holding a conversation), so I went in and spoke to them directly. Anyway, after about a week I was refunded the difference.
Then came the second months payment, again more than I was expecting. I messaged them as per the app and got no response. Again, I went in and spoke to someone who said I would receive a call that day. Guess what, no call received. A few days later I received a message saying that the price of the lessons had gone up and that I had been informed verbally about this. I disputed this, have asked for proof of them writing to me (they insist you put everything in writing but apparently they don't have to!!). I have also asked for the notice they have to send to me legally, advising that my direct debit was increasing. This was a few days ago and guess what, no response. I am therefore going in today and will ask to speak about it and see what they say.
Exceptionally poor customer service and shoddy business practice. Next stop for me appears to be the Financial Ombudsman as the gym doesn't want to deal with the issue. Hopefully the Ombudsman can get somewhere.
By way of a further update, I was told for a second time that money would be refunded. This was a few days ago and nothing returned. No response to my message, calls not returned, its a complete shambles. I have asked for my private personal training lessons to be cancelled as they have broken our agreement twice...nothing. I have left a message at head office, let's see if they are as poor at handling complaints and customer service as their Solihull branch.
UPDATE 23/04/26 - I WAS CONTACTED BY THE GYM on 19/04/26 AND TOLD I HAD BEEN TREATED POORLY. I WAS TOLD I WOULD BE REFUNDED FOR ANY OUTSTANDING PT LESSONS AND THE MONEY I HAD OVERPAID WOULD BE REFUNDED. I ASKED FOR THIS IN WRITING AND WAS TOLD NO PROBLEM. GUESS WHAT....NO REFUND AND NO MESSAGE. ANYWAY...22/04/26...I ISSUED A SMALL CLAIMS COURT CASE AGAINST SOLIHULL DAVID LLOYD. THEY HAVE UNTIL THE 20/05/26 TO RESPOND. ALSO...NOTHING FROM HEAD OFFICE SO YES...ITS A COMPANY WIDE ISSUE.
UPDATE 24/04/26 - £34 WAS TRANSFERED TO MY ACCOUNT, SO THEY PAID BACK THE MONEY THEY OVERCHARGED ME. I AM STILL OWED £120 FOR THE LESSONS I HAVENT TAKEN AND £35 FOR THE SMALL CLAIMS FEE. I ALSO HAVENT BEEN WRITTEN TO AS PROMISED. IT APPEARS NO ONE IS ABLE TO STRING A MESSAGE TOGETHER OR UNDERSTAND CUSTOMER SERVICE.
My advice for people wanting to sign up is look elsewhere.
