I have been a member at this David Lloyd for about 2 years. I finally feel able to give a balanced review.
I joined with 2 teens (kids membership up to age 19). I have a Platinum membership. I have been overall very happy with it but its far from perfect:
Pros: It has a large car park which is free to use. This means even at its busiest there's always parking.
The workspace is a well-used and helpful addition to the membership. Its adults only, quiet and a good place to work. Its busy during week days as people use it as a regular place to work. But in evenings and weekends its quiet. You can order food and drinks to your desk via the app which is great.
The indoor pool is generally clean (although not consistently) and well maintained. They have a good balance of family and adult only swims which works well for me. I tend to avoid Saturday mornings and early week day evenings when there are classes as the pool can be noisy and busy. Generally everyone is considerate using the lanes (I swim twice a week so I'm there a fair amount) and the lifeguards are friendly and helpful.
The sauna is a decent size and is always clean.
The outdoor pool itself is lovely to use and is heated all year round. Its often quieter than the indoor pool until the hot summer days but it is smaller.
The gym is well equipped and generally well maintained. Equipment doesn't stay broken for long if it is. It is a spacious sized gym so you don't feel like you're on top of each other.
The classes are wide ranging and there is plenty of studio space.
The changing room is usually clean and well maintained and the housekeeping staff do a great job.
The food menu is good and is freshly cooked. They do a nice range of food and they cater for most ages and people.
On the whole, my teenage daughter (15) feels very safe here, and is happy to train and swim on her own.
Staff are friendly and helpful. Generally they cannot do enough for you and have overall been great.
Cons:
It's expensive. You'd expect this for David Lloyd, however it is only good value if you go 4 times a week. If you're only planning to go a few times a week and not going to use all of the facilities then other gyms would be better value.
Club communication is poor. They changed the terms of my membership without telling me. About 8 months after joining it transpired that they had downgraded the "level" of this gym (they have different levels for each one depending on facilities and so membership costs are set depending on this). When I joined I could use the other branches in Ringwood and Southampton, which given my work schedule and commute was a big draw and one of the reasons I joined. All of a sudden I was not allowed access to these branches with no warning. It turns out I didn't use them extensively so it didn't affect me greatly, however be careful if you are planning on joining and using multiple branches as this seems to not be guaranteed.
I've also noticed if there are facilities out of action or closed, they don't email the members, so its possible you may travel there to go and do something and find it closed. Again, they are happy enough to send out multiple marketing emails. Why not email when things aren't available to save us time and communicate effectively?
It does get busy. Despite the fact they tell you that they cap the membership, it can feel very busy at times. The wait for food can be up to an hour sometimes but they do warn you when ordering.
Classes fill up quickly and they don't always offer a range after work and at weekends.
The main lounge is noisy and due to the kids play area is like a creche at times. Its good for families with young children but it can be a bit much at times.
The steam room and hot tub are not big enough. They are often overcrowded and you have to wait to use them.
Overall I do recommend it if you're going to use all of the facilities and be there several times a week. You have to work out when the busiest times are to avoid them if you can. I am usually there 4 times per week and most of the time I have an enjoyable experience.

Recently enquired about switching to David Lloyd, and from day one Leon has gone above and beyond to support us. I would highly recommend booking a tour of the club before signing up, as it really helps you get a feel for what’s on offer.
Leon was always available to answer our questions, guide us through the facilities, and help us choose a membership that suited both our needs and lifestyle. He was also easily contactable via email or phone, which made the whole process seamless and reassuring. His approach made everything feel straightforward and genuinely tailored to us.
Ethan also deserves a special mention for being so welcoming and for his continued support in answering additional questions and assisting us with anything we needed early on.
The gym, sauna, and overall facilities at David Lloyd create an excellent environment and atmosphere that keeps you motivated to train. Highly recommended.

While visiting DL today with my family/group of four (all adults by the way), three members of staff approached us and asked us to leave the kids pool, explaining that we were not permitted to use it when unattended by a lifeguard.
I fully understand and respect the safety rules regarding the children's pool.
However, we had moved there specifically because it was the warmest pool available at the time, and we were trying to warm up after using other facilities.
Unfortunately, we found it difficult to get properly warm elsewhere:
The sauna was extremely packed, after we spent around 30 minutes in the steam room, barely felt any benefit. It rarely seems to produce proper steam — on average, it only works effectively on about one in ten visits.
The jacuzzi/whirlpool has consistently been around 33°C for the past six months. At this temperature, it feels more like a mildly warm pool than a proper relaxing jacuzzi. For a genuine hot tub experience, I would expect it to be maintained at least at 36–37°C.
When I tried to raise these points at reception, the member of staff was very polite and friendly. However, I was simply reassured that both the steam room and jacuzzi are “working as they should.”
Given the premium monthly membership fees my household pays, I believe we should be able to raise legitimate concerns about facility performance without being told that everything is fine when it clearly isn’t delivering the expected experience.
These issues have been noticeable for several months now and are making the spa area less enjoyable and less valuable than it should be for the cost of membership.
We chose David Lloyd expecting high-quality relaxation facilities, including a properly heated whirlpool and effective steam room.
I would appreciate it if the club could look into:
Increasing and maintaining the jacuzzi temperature to at least 36–37°C.
Ensuring the steam room consistently delivers adequate steam and heat.
Considering additional options for members to warm up comfortably when the kids pool is unattended.
I’m not looking to complain for the sake of it, i simply want the facilities to work as advertised so that our membership continues to feel worthwhile.
