Today, 26Apr2026, was my first visit to David Lloyd Manchester North with my 8.5-year-old son. I’m glad I used a guest pass, as I definitely won’t be purchasing a membership for him.
He was not allowed to use the jacuzzi, and the outdoor pool was quite cold. On top of that, the lifeguard was repeatedly taking children out of the pool and returning them to parents who were sitting around the pool area.
This policy felt very strange — does it mean I am expected to stay in the water at all times for my child to be allowed to swim? My son is a confident swimmer (Stage 5), and I would prefer to relax on a sun lounger rather than sit in the pool the entire time.
Eventually, he became bored in the small kids’ pool, and it was upsetting to watch him get frustrated and cry because he wasn’t allowed into the jacuzzi. We decided to leave early.
The situation in the women’s changing room (family/kids area) was also very disappointing. Almost all the cubicles were broken except one, which was locked for at least 30 minutes. During that time, we managed to change and dry off, and it had already been locked before we arrived.
Eventually, a cleaner came out of that cubicle. I don’t know what she was doing there for so long, but it appeared to be used more like a staff rest area than a customer changing space.
What shocked me the most was what happened next: she took a white towel from the used towel bin and used her foot to push it along the floor, starting in the toilets and then continuing into the changing room.
I was honestly shocked. I really hope towels are properly sanitised, otherwise this raises serious hygiene concerns.
Overall, there seem to be a lot of strict rules for children, but perhaps more attention should be paid to staff standards and facility maintenance.
