  I’m writing this as the partner of a member at David Lloyd Cheadle, and I’m really disappointed with how a serious situation was handled. At the start of April, my partner was harassed by a group of men at the gym. One of them even filmed her without her consent. It was a very upsetting experience and not something anyone should go through in a place that’s meant to feel safe. I reported it at the time, but we didn’t hear anything back and nothing seemed to be done. No one followed up with us or reassured us that it was being taken seriously. We were also told that similar things have happened before, which is really concerning. Because of this, my partner no longer felt safe going to the gym, so we had to cancel our memberships. We only got a partial refund, even though we couldn’t use the gym for the rest of the month because of what happened. We also offered to speak to the General Manager, but no one got back to us. Overall, it’s been a really disappointing experience. I just hope the gym takes this seriously and does more to make sure members feel safe.

  I attended a Reformer Pilates taster session at David Lloyd Leisure at 17:15 and left within two minutes due to how we were treated by the instructor (Brenda). We arrived on time, but the studio door was locked and there was no welcome. Instead, we were met with “You here for the taster session?” in a blunt tone. When I asked a simple question about whether the door is usually locked, the response was “Yes, why wouldn’t it be?” which immediately set the tone. The situation then escalated over grip socks. I had been told by reception beforehand that for a taster session they weren’t required, but the instructor refused to let me take part without them. That in itself is fine if it’s policy, but the way it was handled was unnecessarily rude and confrontational. Her manner towards us and other attendees was uncomfortable to watch. People looked hesitant to even answer her. When my friend suggested sharing socks so I could still participate, the instructor interrupted with “I’ll dictate what happens in my class” in an aggressive tone. At that point, I had to stop the interaction and say we were leaving due to how we were being spoken to. This was supposed to be an introductory experience, but instead it felt hostile and unwelcoming from start to finish. I’ve never been spoken to like that in a customer setting. Big issue here is not the sock policy, it’s the attitude and complete lack of professionalism. Really disappointing.
