  I bought a pair of glasses specifically because Vision Express Altrincham told me BEFORE I bought them that they could fit my prescription lenses into them. After I spent the money, their lab refused the job — and the very same member of staff then told me that ready-reading glasses are categorically “unglazeable”. I walked down the road to Scrivens, who inspected the exact same frames, called their lab and accepted the reglazing work. That is an appalling way to treat a customer who specifically sought professional advice before making a purchase. The full sequence is worth explaining. I liked a pair of IZIPIZI ready-reading glasses but needed my own prescription, including astigmatism correction, fitted into them. Because I knew they were sold as ready readers rather than ordinary optical frames, I deliberately checked with Vision Express Altrincham BEFORE buying them. I explained what I wanted to do and was told they could reglaze them. I relied on that advice and bought the glasses. When I subsequently brought them to Vision Express, they were sent to the laboratory and the laboratory refused the work. That decision itself isn't what has prompted this review. If Vision Express's lab has a policy against working on certain frames, or considers the risk of damage too high, that's their prerogative. What I found astonishing was the response afterwards. The same member of staff who had told me before purchase that the glasses could be reglazed now told me categorically that ready-reading glasses are “unglazeable”. So rather than being told, “I'm sorry, I gave you incorrect advice,” or “Our laboratory won't accept the risk with this particular frame,” I was given a sweeping technical claim that directly contradicted the advice on which I had spent my money. I left rather than argue and went to Scrivens in Altrincham. Their response could hardly have been more different. They physically inspected the IZIPIZI frames, telephoned their glazing laboratory while I was there and confirmed that the lab would accept the work. They explained that there was an increased risk of damage, I signed a disclaimer confirming that I accepted that risk, and the reglazing order was placed. In other words, Scrivens dealt with the actual issue — risk — openly and pragmatically. Vision Express could simply have done the same, or admitted that the advice I had been given before purchasing the glasses was wrong. I am also an existing Vision Express contact-lens subscription customer, so they receive ongoing business from me every month. This experience has undermined my confidence sufficiently that I am now considering moving that business elsewhere too. I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before relying on advice from this store about whether a frame can or cannot be reglazed.

  My son always been scared of the opticians. We decided to try vision express whilst we was shopping one day. Dave was so helpful and helped my son feel calm. We got 2 pairs of glasses and dave helped us in whatever way was possible to ensure everything was perfect. Even Marvin the mole comes for check ups now.
