Really friendly store in Cranleigh.i was served by Georgia on arrival for the small tests for eye health (the dreaded puff of air test and others) prior to seeing Optician. Georgia was also really lovely when I collected my new glasses. The actual eye test went well and Optician was professional but also friendly however the test itself felt a little bit rushed. I did have an issue over the results and him telling me I no longer needed glasses as this was not correct. In the end, he agreed to me having varifocals based on my previous prescription from a few years ago. I was concerned that an Optician cannot understand that my eyesight was 'perfect' and I no longer required glasses. My main concern was whether his 'diagnosis' would affect the legality of my driving ability as I knew my eyesight requires the glasses.

Excellent service from the staff in store, from the Optician to the Store Manager. They are knowledgeable and create a friendly and calm atmosphere which helps when it comes to such an essential service. I really appreciated their help as I have now found a contact lense that suits my needs each day. This supports the use of my glasses as I have had to change everything due to Presbiopia. Thank you.

I am leaving this review because customers deserve to know what they are actually getting for their money. I had a very pleasant experience at a different Specsavers branch several years ago, which is actually why I decided to return to Specsavers this time. Unfortunately, this experience was completely different. They have now lost me as a customer. From the moment I entered the shop, the experience was disappointing. The glasses were simply thrown into the case with the cleaning cloth crumpled underneath them. Nothing was folded or presented properly. The case itself is extremely flimsy, feather-light, little more than a thin felt case, and the cleaning cloth looked creased, scruffy and used rather than clean and new. I have included photographs because seeing it is better than taking my word for it. It screams cheap. Hygiene was another concern. Before my eye examination I noticed that the chin rest and forehead rest of the testing equipment had not been cleaned. I had to specifically ask for them to be wiped before I was examined. That should be routine, not something the customer has to notice and request. The service was slow, frustrating and inconsistent. Different members of staff gave me conflicting information about what I was buying and what the offers covered. I was also told that my half price second pair voucher could only be used at that particular branch. I subsequently discovered that this information was incorrect. Whether this was incompetence or simply poor communication, it left me with very little confidence in what I was being told. The pricing is particularly difficult to justify. Specsavers advertises complete glasses from £15, yet many of the frames on display were £50, £70, £100 or considerably more. I was also charged an additional £40 for an anti reflective lens coating. I understand perfectly well that a business needs to cover its overheads and make a profit. However, the prices being charged bear very little resemblance to the relatively low manufacturing cost of mass produced frames and lens treatments. The issue is not that Specsavers makes a profit. The issue is the size of the markup and the way these products are presented as exceptional value. In my view, charging £50, £70, £100 or more for mass produced frames, on top of additional charges for lens treatments, represents very poor value for money. A £15 starting price may sound attractive, but when the vast majority of the frames you are actually looking at cost several times that amount, the headline price becomes rather misleading. The fitting was another major problem. Instead of properly adjusting the arms of the glasses, the lenses were twisted horizontally to make them sit differently. The result was a visibly tilted frame and immediate discomfort and eye strain. I eventually had to take the glasses to another Specsavers branch to have them properly adjusted. This is particularly disappointing because Specsavers itself acknowledges that correct fitting matters and that poorly fitting glasses can affect the quality of vision. Unfortunately, the overall impression was that nobody was particularly interested in providing a careful or professional service. The staff appeared uninterested and at times irritated, rather than welcoming or helpful. The combination of poor presentation, questionable hygiene, conflicting information, inadequate fitting and what I consider excessive pricing made this a thoroughly disappointing experience. I genuinely feel that I did not receive reasonable value for the money I spent. There are plenty of alternatives available. My advice is simple: shop around before paying Specsavers prices. I certainly will not be rushing back.
