My husband and I have each had tours of David Lloyd facilities in Shrewsbury by Ben & Tom respectively following which we have signed up for membership. The facilities are exceptional and very impressive. I was particularly anxious as a retiree about some areas of the tour particularly the gym having not exercised at all beyond school days. Both Ben & Tom were friendly, approachable, knowledgeable and put us entirely at ease. Very much looking forward to our start date and experiencing the facilities first hand!

Really disappointing service, I pay full David Lloyd platinum membership and Shrewsbury won’t let me use their facilities, why? Because they want to prioritise their existing local members…fair enough. However, during their redevelopment I was using their club when their existing members stayed away, and the real sting in the tail is that non-members and non-paying people can use their club with a day pass. So paying members can’t visit, but non paying, non members can? Very poor and no one is interested. 🤷🏻‍♂️

David Lloyd is missing out on a lot of potential revenue. The membership prices are so unrealistic. Whilst there are few options for gyms locally, it's exciting to have a new refurbished option and I can appreciate this is premium so we might expect to pay 3-4 times as much, but its more like 5.5 times as much. I only plan to come 2-3 times per week, two gym sessions and 1 swim session max, I dont need access to anything else and would guess atleast a third of my visits will be off peak. Or half if im doing 2 sessions. I enquired with this info and there was literally 0 leniency on cost. I tried about a year ago to see if there was a student discount as i was studying at the time, this was while the refurb was under way, they didn't offer anything. Recently I thought I'd try again but nothing. £150 pcm is just hard to justify, just because you CAN afford it doesnt mean it makes sense; especially as none essential expenditure. I did email to say if they can do £90-£120 I'd go for it, (because whats the benefit when I can go to JD gym and do 2 gym sessions a week with decent equipment, and go to the swimming baths near the quarry for a swim). More often than not I'd be doing 2 sessions a week, that's nearly £20 per visit. I understand you have overheads to pay but the prices are just unrealistic for anyone not dedicating 5-6 days a week to it. It's a shame to feel excluded because of this. David Lloyd should consider a pricing option for people who only want to come 2-3 times per week, and monitor this in some way if required, so the gym doesn’t get overcrowded. I think youre missing out on a decent amount of revenue, by having no pricing flexibility. That said, I've heard from a couple of friends they were quoted cheaper, so maybe it's me specifically they won't accommodate. I was ready to pay the higher end of my maximum budget, sign up for 12 months, but they said no and sent me a generic link to fill in my personal details presumably to ring me instead as they already had the email address I'd contacted them on, I had to ask for the price as they still hadn't even confirmed what the price was, which absolutely should have been fully transparent at that stage, especially in a private email conversation. No kind of incentive whatsoever was offered to me to encourage me to take a membership, nothing. As a sales manager myself, its really unheard of to have literally no leniency on the price or offer literally 0 pricing incentive when a prospect asks for one. Out of Principal, I'll give it a miss again.. maybe I'll try again next year 😂. That said noone was rude by any means, it just felt robotic and rigid, scripted. I don't know - sales is negotiating with reasonable perimeters, so I'm thrown off by it. It's a shame.

Have been a member now since May and just love it. It's not cheap but for me it's worth every penny. At the moment I haven't ventured upstairs to the gym but the Aqua Aerobic classes are excellent and today tried Aqua Zumba with Sabina....super class and have already booked for next week. The Spa is a terrific place to finish off your visit with. Staff polite and helpful . All in all a great experience.

The new refurb looks absolutely fantastic! We’ve received exceptionally friendly service from every member of staff we’ve encountered so far — from the two lovely ladies at the reception desk, who were more than happy to help and answer any questions with a smile, to Abzy, who gave us a tour of the club. Abzy was super warm, welcoming and really knowledgeable, taking the time to explain everything the club has to offer. He immediately made us feel at ease and had such a lovely, friendly manner about him. He wasn’t salesy or pushy whatsoever, which actually made us want to join even more! Such a great first impression of the club and the team. 😊
