I attended for eye test on the 14th September at St Helens, purchased varifocals for £301. I collected the glasses the week later on the 21st but when I tried them on i could not read through them, I could not see at all anything held in front of me to read at any distance or angle. I told the lady that there was an issue as I can not see through them or read at all, there was no interest, no help, no adjustments made, or any advice apart from I need to give it 2 weeks, I tried to explain that 2 weeks will not enable me to read as it was not a case of getting used to the varifocals it was a case of something is seriously amiss here, but as it was falling on deaf ears I took my glasses home with the intention to give it a try. Nothing changed and I had to return the following day, I sat down with the manager who at first was great, she made alterations, gave advice, but then admitted the prescription appears to be wrong and the only thing left open was to retest my vision, the manager stated that the member of staff I saw the day before required speaking to by her as she had failed to provide the service required to rectify the issue rather than just ushering me out of the store.
It was my first time visiting Vision Express and all my confidence had gone so I refused a retest and requested a full refund, I initially had a voucher for a free eye test but when I was refunded this was deducted from the £301 I had paid and the manager would only refund me £271 there was no changing her mind. Putting the voucher to one side and focusing on being charged for an eye test that has evidently not been done correctly I do not believe I should be charged for this service, also I handed over £301 for glasses not including any charge for an eye test so Vision Express actually have no right to withhold £30, especially for a service that has not been recieved.
I have since attended another opticians and had the same eye test and there are discrepancies in the prescriptions evidencing that this eye test at Vision Express was not completed correctly backed up by me not been able to see through the glasses produced from that prescription.
I have also spent 2 hours on the phone to customer service which was a waste of time as they were no help because all they do is speak to the manager of the store who will not budge.
I have also emailed copies of both prescriptions highlighting discrepancies to customer care.
The complaint has now been escalated so we will see what happens.
In essence Vision Express expect me to pay £30 for a service that has not been provided correctly and there is an abundance of evidence to back this up.
