Really disappointed with the way my family was treated today. I've been coming to this club since it was Virgin Active back when i was a teenager, and now I bring my children every Saturday for their activities. My wife was attending as my guest while accompanying our children. She was carrying our young child in the heat and has multiple sclerosis, so I try to make things as easy as possible for her. I send the guest pass to my own phone, add it to my Google Wallet and check everyone in myself. The guest pass had already been issued, was valid, open on my phone and ready to be scanned. Despite this, two members of staff refused to let us through because the guest pass was on my phone instead of my wife's. I asked them to show me where it states that a valid guest pass must be displayed on the guest's own phone, but they couldn't. The duty manager was then called over and immediately confirmed that it made no difference whether the guest pass was on my phone or my wife's, as long as I was the member accompanying my guest. That confirmed the entire confrontation was unnecessary. What made it worse was how it was handled. Rather than dealing with it discreetly, I was challenged at the front desk in full view of other members waiting to check in. Standing there with my wife, my two young children and a queue of people watching over an issue that didn't actually exist was embarrassing and completely avoidable. Because of this unnecessary delay, my son was 15 minutes late to his class. This also isn't the first time. The same receptionist has challenged me over the guest pass process on more than one occasion. Yet when other reception staff are working, I have absolutely no issues checking my wife in as my guest. The experience seems to depend entirely on who is behind the desk, which shouldn't be the case. A bit of empathy and common sense would have gone a long way. Instead of helping a family with two young children, one of whom was being carried by a mother with multiple sclerosis in hot weather, the focus was on creating a problem over a valid guest pass that your own duty manager confirmed was perfectly acceptable. After being associated with this club for many years, I expected much better. Reception staff need consistent training so members aren't subjected to unnecessary confrontation, embarrassment and delays. No family should be made to feel like this over a process they have followed correctly. The receptionist's attitude came across as rude, dismissive and unnecessarily confrontational. Instead of trying to resolve the situation, I felt I was being challenged over a valid guest pass in front of my wife, my children and other members. It was an embarrassing and wholly avoidable experience

Needs an updare in places but overall really good. More parasols would be nice around the pool and outside. Staff are lovely.

Good place to go but I will not class this as best, few reasons, I know this club specially when iy was transforming from virgin active. More money oriented, less facilities, so many issues, related to Sauna, steam room. Disabled toilet smells really bad, tissue holders in all toilet appear like from stone age. Less accommodating to special needs, no flexibility their club rules. All major places provide a lot of support specially when it comes to SEN children.

Today I attended a Pilates class at this club and from the very beginning I could feel that I was not welcome there. Despite that, I calmly joined the class and started exercising. However, the instructor almost immediately began picking on me first about my knee pads, and then, in front of the entire group, she said: “Maybe Pilates just isn’t for you.” After that, there were more comments in the same tone. The whole interaction clearly felt aimed at making me feel out of place. This did not come across as professional behaviour from an instructor, but as humiliation and discrimination. As a result, I am cancelling my membership today. I find it unacceptable that a club allows someone to work there who is so openly prejudiced towards people simply because they are different from her. I was left with the strong impression that if I were a “more acceptable” white British person, I would not have been treated this way. A gym should be a place where people feel safe and respected, not somewhere they experience passive aggression and public humiliation from staff. UPDATE The club representatives were very apologetic about the situation, but later that same evening almost £300 was still taken from my account. Even though I had cancelled my membership on time and was fully entitled to stop paying, they tried to charge me for three additional months during which I would not be using the club. I also received calls asking me to explain why I did not want to pay, despite the fact that my cancellation had been submitted within the required notice period. As a result of this situation, I had to change my bank card. My experience was extremely negative, and I cannot recommend this club.
