I attended Specsavers Oxford Westgate on 18 June 2026 for a routine eye test and prescription. Unfortunately, my interaction with the optometrist, who identified himself only as “Vips” (later identified as VIPUL RAVAL), was entirely unacceptable. Rather than carrying out the appointment, he immediately asked if I wore contact lenses and where I got them from. He repeatedly questioned why I purchased my contact lenses online from a different provider, why I was not buying them from Specsavers, and why I was attending the appointment at all since I was not purchasing my contact lenses or glasses from Specsavers. My health concerns were being overlooked and felt challenged for seeking help. Despite repeatedly explaining that I was there as a paying customer for an eye test since i’ve been experiencing dry eyes and headaches, I felt as though I was being interrogated rather than treated as a patient. He was very money focused rather than focusing on my health condition. His dismissive & aggressive tone, repeated shoulder shrugging, head shaking, and constant questioning made me feel belittled and unwelcome. The experience left me feeling humiliated, intimidated, and close to tears. I suffer from anxiety, and my autistic daughter was present and also found the interaction extremely upsetting. When I asked for his full name, he refused to provide it, stating that he was the only “Vips” who worked in Specsavers. Because I felt humiliated and was close to tears i decided to leave the room without receiving an eye test, his final words were: “Bye and I’ll remove you from our system.” Most people expect a healthcare professional to be calm, respectful, patient, and focused on the patient’s needs. Whether it’s an optometrist, GP, dentist, nurse, or pharmacist, patients should not feel as though they are being challenged or interrogated for seeking care. They should be treated with professionalism, courtesy, and respect. Unfortunately, that was not my experience today. The image he presents online clearly does not match the person we met. I attended expecting professionalism, respect, and basic courtesy. Instead, I received the complete opposite. This experience fell far below the standard of care I would expect from Specsavers, and I have now submitted a formal complaint.

Just been to this branch for hearing aid check. Never seen this audiologist before but she was amazing. Friendly, knew what she was doing, helped me get my hearing aids back to top working condition. Even sorted out the streaming set up. Susana was brilliant!.

Just had my 99 year old mother tested and fitted NHS hearing aids after her previous ones stopped working, and I was very impressed by the whole procedure. Arush worked around her mobility issues with sensitivity and creativity, and we walked out 40 minutes later with a set of brilliant hearing aids that have saved the day. A really impressive performance: thank you so much.

The staff that did the training was so patient, kind and wonderful. She’s an excellent and outstanding teacher. Looking forward to my next appointment, hopefully with her. Anyways, the staff at Specsavers are generally professional and kind.
