  I took my 6 year old for his eye test. We were seen promptly & the entire process was straightforward. Claudia especially went the extra mile to engage with my son which was much appreciated. We didn’t receive notification that my son’s glasses had arrived, but other than that the experience was great.

  ocused on what happened: I gave this score because my son’s appointment was an extremely disappointing experience. My son is autistic and has limited communication. I clearly stated this on the booking form before the appointment, so the staff should have been aware of his additional needs before we arrived. Unfortunately, the member of staff carrying out the eye test showed very little patience, understanding, or empathy. When my son struggled to follow instructions, she appeared frustrated rather than adapting her approach. She repeatedly asked him to identify letters, but when he responded, she often misunderstood what he was saying. The overall interaction felt rushed and unsuitable for a child with communication difficulties. I reminded her during the appointment that he is autistic, and her response was simply “Yeah, I know,” with no change in approach or effort to accommodate his needs. I felt that his diagnosis was acknowledged but completely disregarded. One particularly upsetting moment was when a bright light was shone into his eyes. He showed obvious signs of severe discomfort and distress. As an autistic child, he is naturally more sensitive to sensory stimuli such as bright lights. Despite his visible discomfort, the staff member repeatedly attempted the same test rather than pausing, reassuring him, or considering an alternative approach. This only increased his distress and made him feel even less at ease. As a parent, I expect healthcare professionals working with children to show kindness, patience, and an understanding of neurodivergent needs. Instead, I left feeling upset, frustrated, and concerned that my son was not treated with the care and respect he deserved. I would not currently recommend this branch to other families with autistic children unless staff receive better training and support in working with children who have additional needs.

  It was my first time at Specsavers. Had such a lovely experience. Really warm welcome. My appointment started on time. The audiologist explained everything very clearly. I felt at ease and able to ask questions. Thank you!
