I visited the Tesco pharmacy in Irlam to purchase prochlorperazine 3mg buccal tablets for sickness, which is a Pharmacy (P) medicine and does not require a prescription. Despite this, the counter staff refused to sell it, even though they confirmed it was in stock. When I asked for an explanation, the staff member was unable to provide any clear reason. She stated they were “not allowed to sell it” but couldn’t explain why, which showed a clear lack of understanding of pharmacy regulations. This was both confusing and frustrating, especially given that this medication is not subject to misuse concerns. To make matters worse, there was a noticeable lack of professionalism. Staff were chatting and laughing in the back while customers were waiting in a queue. I was then told to come back in 20 minutes to speak to the manager, who was on a break, just to get a basic explanation. What I find particularly concerning is that prescription medicines require a pharmacist to be present and acting in charge. No Accuracy Checking Technician (ACT) was present either. Despite this, prescription medications were still being handed out to other patients, which raises serious concerns about how the pharmacy was operating in the pharmacist’s absence. I will be raising these concerns with the General Pharmaceutical Council, as this experience raises serious questions about compliance, patient safety, and professional standards. Overall, this was a disappointing experience marked by poor communication, lack of knowledge, and little empathy for someone seeking relief from sickness. Refusing access to an appropriate, non-prescription medication without a valid explanation is unacceptable. The service needs significant improvement.

Prescription of seizure blocking meds with them for 1 month, 4 visits and told will be ready the next day or in 1 hour as they have it in stock. 5th visit told not in stock and they can't source it, 1 month of messing around for nothing. Avoid at all costs.

Staff do not make eye contact with you to serve you. There was 6 members of staff behind the counter, and not one would acknowledge me waiting, until I asked if anyone was serving. Staff are generally abrupt, unhelpful and rude. Only 2 or 3 that are more approachable. They NEVER answer the phone to help with queries. If it wasn't for them being open at weekends I would change pharmacies in an instant.
