The eye test was very thorough and the staff friendly and professional throughout, but I’ve lowered the rating because of the overly pushy sales tactics.
The optometrist said I am short sighted, but they were recommending varifocal glasses. I asked why because I don’t need them and she was dismissive. I get the impression this is a default recommendation.
When I was taken to look at glasses, they were patient and friendly, but the chap starting doing a tedious sales pitch & explaining varifocal, then the costing and I started laughing. The varifocal lenses they *recommend* were £519 + frames!!!! They also keep pushing for transition lenses. I had to say repeatedly I didn’t want varifocal or transition lenses. I had to really push to get the price of short sighted lenses that I need, turns out they were £70!! Bit of a difference!!
The guy lost interest after it was obvious I wasn’t interested in his sales pitch. He also tried to push me into their payment plan.
I just wanted to leave. I walked away with a bad taste as it felt like I had been forced to watch a timeshare sales pitch.
I also asked as they had offers at Vision Express online, and he said they don’t match those, which is unusual in today’s market.
I would say, have your eye test, but know your prices and don’t get dragged into their sales pitch to get lenses you don’t need. You can get the same quality much cheaper elsewhere!
I am only giving 2 stars because the optometrist Izzy was amazing, professional and explained all my issues very well.
However, despite booking an appointment for 1:30, I was forced to wait for around 30 minutes just to be seen. After my eye test, I was asked to look around for frames, while they were getting a consultant to help me. Once he came, his initial question was not if I found anything I like, but how much coverage I get with my insurance which is really unprofessional and I felt that he was trying to take advantage of it and get me to spend more rather than helping me to find the best glasses. Additionally, he tried to push me to get transition glasses multiple times, when I clearly told him that I don't want them nor like them. Since I was already out of free time (due to test delay) I asked the consultant to pay for the vision test now, but he still tried to push me to get the glasses now, as "this will only take 20 minutes". So, I had to ask him for the second time, which is ridiculous. Sadly, I don't remember his name, but he shouldn't be working here. Last time, I had a bad experience with another male consultant, however, I gave VisionExpress the benefit of a doubt.
I want to give a huge thank you to Sahidya (Saki), who did my eye test and was absolutely amazing throughout the whole experience.
She was so professional, reassuring and knowledgeable during my eye test, and took the time to explain everything properly and give me really helpful advice. I felt like she genuinely cared about making sure I understood everything and was comfortable with the recommendations she was giving me.
She was especially brilliant when it came to teaching me how to put my contact lenses in. I was genuinely worried that I wouldn’t be able to do it, but Saki was so patient and encouraging with me. She never made me feel silly or rushed, and talked me through everything calmly until I felt comfortable and confident doing it myself.
Something I was quite nervous about ended up being such a positive experience because of her. You can really tell when someone is good at their job and genuinely cares about the person they’re helping, and Saki is definitely one of those people.
Thank you so much, Saki, for your patience, reassurance and all of your advice. You’re an absolute credit to Vision Express and made the whole experience so much easier for me!
Also, I want to thank Khadija for making my visit so much easier and more enjoyable.
I came in feeling completely overwhelmed by the amount of choice and honestly had no idea where to start with all the different glasses. Khadija was incredibly calm, patient and genuinely kind. She spent so much time helping me try different styles, giving me advice and making sure I was completely happy, but never once made me feel rushed or like I was taking up too much of her time. You could genuinely tell that she wanted to help rather than just make a sale, which made such a difference.
By the end of my visit, I felt so much more confident with my choices. I ended up joining the eye care plan, choosing two pairs of glasses, and getting contact lenses too! What started as quite an overwhelming experience actually ended up making my day, and that was entirely down to how well Khadija looked after me.
She is an absolute credit to Vision Express and deserves recognition for the level of care and customer service she provides. Thank you so much, Khadija — I really appreciate your patience, kindness and all the time you spent helping me.
Andrew is honestly an outstanding subject matter expert in his field. He has a real gift for breaking down complex eye health concepts, like retinal changes, prescription changes or lens options, into simple, easy to understand terms, using great examples that put your mind at ease straight away.
His analysis is so thorough and caring, he takes the time to properly assess your vision and eye health, then walks you through clear next steps so you always know exactly what's going on and what to expect. It's no wonder so many patients specifically ask to see him. A brilliant optometrist and a real asset to the Vision Express team.
Karl also gave me truly exceptional service. He was professional, patient, and took the time to explain everything clearly. When adjusting my glasses, he really paid attention to detail to make sure they fit just right.
What stood out most was how easily he built genuine trust and rapport. The whole experience felt personal, relaxed and never rushed. Honestly one of the best managers I've come across in customer service. Great credit to Vision Express!

I usually don’t write reviews, but I felt this experience needed to be shared.
I ordered my glasses from Vision Express Oxford over a month ago, and getting any kind of update has been incredibly frustrating. I emailed, called several times, used their online forms, and even submitted a formal complaint. Apart from my very first email, where I was told they would chase it up, I received no response. My complaint was not even acknowledged.
On several occasions, I waited more than 20 minutes on the phone just to speak to someone, only to be told that they would call me back — and the call never came. During one of my more recent calls, I was told my glasses should be ready within a week. That week passed with no update at all, so once again I had to call, wait on hold, and chase them myself before someone was finally able to give me an update.
Even now, I still have no idea why the glasses took this long. Nobody has given me any explanation for the delay or told me what actually went wrong. I understand that delays can happen, but what has made this experience so disappointing is the complete lack of communication and transparency. If someone had simply explained the situation and kept me updated, it would have been much easier to understand.
What makes this even more frustrating is that I have ordered from Vision Express before and the experience was extremely efficient. I really don’t know why the service was so poor this time, especially with so many attempts to contact them being repeatedly ignored.
Based on my experiences, this store seems very hit and miss. When things go smoothly, they can be great, but if there is an issue with your order, getting an update or even a basic explanation appears to be much harder than it should be.
Hopefully, when I actually go to collect the glasses, they are there as promised. After all the delays, missed callbacks and lack of communication, I’m at the point where I wouldn’t be surprised to be given another excuse or told to wait even longer. I really hope that isn’t the case, but this experience has unfortunately given me very little confidence in the updates I’ve been given.
