  I don’t normally write reviews like this, but I genuinely felt that Virgin Active deserved to be recognised for the way they have supported me. This year has been an incredibly difficult one for me personally, and there have been moments when circumstances completely outside of my control have turned my life upside down. Throughout everything, the understanding, compassion and kindness I have received from Virgin Active, their management team and their customer relations team has meant more to me than they will probably ever realise. For some people, a gym is simply somewhere to exercise or work towards looking good. But for others, it represents so much more. Exercise can be an important part of looking after your physical health, but it can also provide routine, structure, an escape from everyday pressures and somewhere to focus on yourself when life feels overwhelming. Mental wellbeing matters just as much as physical wellbeing, and sometimes having somewhere positive to go can make an enormous difference in somebody’s life. What impressed me most about Virgin Active was that I felt I was being treated as a human being, not simply as a membership number or an account. From the customer relations team who listened to me, to the management team who considered my circumstances, I was shown genuine understanding, compassion and support. I won’t go into the details of my personal circumstances or the assistance I received because those matters are private. However, I can say that the level of care, understanding and support shown to me was exceptional. I would also like to give a very special thank you to Oskar from the Customer Relations team. The compassion, patience and understanding you showed me made such a difference. You took the time to listen and made me feel that my circumstances genuinely mattered. I will always be grateful for the kindness and humanity you showed me during an incredibly difficult period of my life. Sometimes you never know what somebody is dealing with behind closed doors. Life can become incredibly difficult, and for some people those struggles can affect their mental health profoundly. That is why compassion matters. A little understanding at the right moment can mean far more to someone than you may ever know. To Virgin Active’s management team, Customer Relations team and everyone else who took the time to listen, understand and help me: thank you. You haven’t simply made me feel valued as a member; you have reminded me why I wanted to be part of Virgin Active in the first place. I am genuinely grateful for the kindness I have been shown, and I am very much looking forward to returning. ❤️

  Virgin Active Wandsworth: where putting dumbbells back in the correct place is apparently an advanced functional fitness challenge. I completely understand that gyms are busy at peak times. That’s normal. If you train at 7am, you adapt, get creative and work around it. No issue there. What’s harder to understand is why the basic housekeeping seems permanently optional. The dumbbells are never in the right place, even when they’ve technically been “put back”. This feels like quite a solvable problem: occasionally have a member of staff walk around the gym, tidy the racks and remind members to put equipment back properly. Revolutionary stuff. Today’s premium health-club experience also included going to the toilet and discovering there was no toilet paper, followed by trying the hand lotion dispenser and discovering there was no hand lotion. Then I opened the same locker I used yesterday and found the same empty bottle someone had left in there. Still there. Maybe it’s now a permanent installation. Perhaps Virgin Active Wandsworth is branching into contemporary art. None of these are major operational challenges. That’s almost what makes it worse. They’re basic standards that would take very little effort to fix. If I were paying the full circa £160 membership price, I’d be absolutely baffled. Through Vitality, the convenience makes it tolerable, but I certainly wouldn’t describe the experience as premium. The gym itself has potential. It just needs someone to occasionally walk around it and notice what’s going on. Management, take note.

  Fantastic service from moment walked in at Reception and a really well planned and delivered Reformer Pilates class with Ciara. Really clear instructions given at a good pace delivered with positive energy.

  This gym needs a serious makeover. Changing rooms are disgusting and smell with little flies in them. Barely a cleaner in site whilst 4 people sit and chat at reception with no regard to customer service. Would like to caveat that with a shout out to Raheem (hope I spelt that right). He is extremely polite, helpful and professional. Never any soap in the showers. Toilets broken and leaking onto the floors. Finally, I feel sorry for any women using the Sauna - I’ve been in there plenty of times when horrible blokes are talking why they are only in there to look at women and making comments about their appearance - whilst they are in there. Grim. The gym itself is decent, but gets busy at peak times like any. Far from being a “luxury gym”. It’s a pure gym (insult to pure gym?) with towels.
