  It is a real shame that the recent refurbishment does not seem to have addressed what, in my view, is the main issue with Virgin Active Mayfair: the gym is simply too busy for its actual training capacity. The biggest problem is the machine area. There is often only one machine of each type, and because the area is so busy, almost every machine is occupied. As a result, waiting times can be very long, and a workout that should be efficient often ends up taking much longer than necessary. This is particularly noticeable on weekday evenings, when the gym floor feels overcrowded and difficult to use properly. For people who want to train efficiently and make the most of their time, I find it hard to recommend this club in its current state. Given the level of the membership fees, the experience does not feel especially good value for money. What makes this more frustrating is that there still appears to be enough space to add more equipment. If the club increased the number of machines and improved the overall training capacity, it would make a significant difference, and I would be much more comfortable recommending it to friends. Maintenance also seems to be an issue. Some machines do not appear to be looked after as well as they should be. Since the refurbishment, the staff desk that used to be on the gym floor has gone, and it does feel as though there is now less supervision and less attention being paid to the training area. Finally, the gym should provide proper wet wipes for members to clean machines after use. At the moment, there is paper and disinfectant spray, but there are too few stations and, in practice, many people do not use them. Cleanliness is extremely important in a gym, and this is something the club should take more seriously. Overall, the location is excellent and the club has potential, but the current experience is let down by overcrowding, insufficient equipment, inconsistent maintenance and poor cleaning provision on the gym floor.

  It's a fantastic fitness center! The equipment is excellent, and the gym is spacious. However, the highlight is the sauna and steam room, where the temperature is perfect, the atmosphere is cozy, and everything is clean. After a workout, taking a steam bath is an incredible experience! I highly recommend it to everyone!

  The worst, most horrible gym experience in central London. Rude staff, extremely unhygienic gym, and inexperienced management. All long-time members have begun leaving this gym for the same reasons mentioned above... this place is getting nastier by the day. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
