  I’ve been trying to cancel my membership due to a house move. I’ve emailed Virgin Active numerous times. Spoken to them on the phone, sent proof of new address and they still are yet to cancel my membership. Over £360 in payments over the last 3 months, it really is unacceptable.

  I have to say, I’m a little surprised to see this level of equipment in a premium gym like Virgin Active. Some of the machines look seriously dated and could definitely use some attention, with a few even showing signs of rust and wear. The Islington Angel club has been around since 2002, so it’s now been operating for 24 years. Of course, the age of the club itself isn’t the issue — but after 24 years, I think the equipment should be kept up to a modern premium standard. There are so many fantastic, modern machines available now that I feel a premium gym should be keeping up with the times. Hopefully Virgin Active will consider upgrading and maintaining the equipment more regularly it would really elevate the overall member experience

  I don’t even know where to start with this gym. Firstly - just don’t bother locking yourself into a 12 month contract, seriously. If you’re genuinely a gym goer - the machinery is dated and almost all of the weights are pilling and gross. Also if there’s a class on that are using free weights.. good luck finding a single weight to use. Gym floor is constantly covered in tissues ? Gross. The stair masters and treadmills constantly have this weird gross film of either sweat or a spilt drink.. it’s very consistent and I’ve never figured out what the mystery liquid is. Bare socks is pretty much a no go because they’ll be wet .. from said mystery liquid. Women’s changing room - never and I mean NEVER any conditioner in the dispenser, I bring my own now. Loads of dirty wet towels left everywhere. Rarely tissue in the tissue dispenser.. despite all of this there is a cleaning lady in the changing rooms almost 24/7….. odd. Spa area - if you want you relax in the sauna between the hours of 8pm and 10pm, good luck, because you’ll be met with a plethora of men doing push ups and working out, pacing around the sauna and making it a generally, very unrelaxing environment. You’ll escape to the steam room and they’ll come there too. That’s if you can hack the steam room, with the mixture of oils that are doused on it every day. A lot of people on phones, in the spa areas watching videos out loud / taking photos. It is the complete opposite of your typical spa experience, so if you’re going to relax, you’d be better off going to a playground and listening to children scream at the top of their lungs. The staff - do not take any reports seriously at all, even when threatening behaviour or violence is involved, so you don’t have the peace of mind that the staff will come to your aid or make any situation better. I will however say there are 3-4 genuinely fantastic members of staff at this gym. Have a serious think before just committing.. go in & book a tour to see the madness for yourself.

  The best gym to train! The group exorcise options is vast also the cleanest is bonus always flashy! All member of the staff’s are so friendly and professional. 👏🏼👌🏼🙏🏼
