Extremely rude, dismissive and completely lacking in compassion – particularly towards children. I am genuinely appalled by the treatment my family has received at Specsavers Westway Cross, Greenford, on two separate occasions. Our first experience was when I brought my young son in because I was seriously concerned about a problem with his eye. Rather than being met with reassurance or helpful advice, I was made to feel like an idiot, with staff bluntly telling me, “We don't know why you're here. You should be at a GP.” I'm sorry, but I am a parent, not an eye specialist. How am I supposed to know whether an eye problem requires an optician, GP or hospital? Surely part of providing a healthcare service is helping people understand where to seek appropriate care, rather than belittling them for asking? Unfortunately, today's experience (Sunday 18th October) was even worse. We had an appointment at 12:25pm for our little daughter's routine eye test. We were also bringing our young son, who has since undergone numerous hospital appointments, CT scans and consultations with eye specialists, to choose glasses using his hospital-issued prescription. These glasses are important for correcting his eye condition. We arrived at 12:33pm – eight minutes late. Anyone familiar with Westway Cross Retail Park will know that the surrounding traffic and seemingly endless roadworks have made accessing the retail park incredibly difficult for a considerable time. We had allowed extra travelling time, but even on a Sunday the traffic caused delays. We were informed that Specsavers operates a strict five-minute lateness policy and that we would not be seen. That meant we were just THREE MINUTES outside their permitted window. Whilst I appreciate that appointments need to run to schedule, I would question whether a ten-minute allowance might be more reasonable, particularly given the well-known access issues at this retail park. However, my biggest complaint isn't the policy itself. It's the absolutely appalling attitude of the staff enforcing it. We explained our circumstances and made it clear that we completely understood if our daughter's eye test could no longer go ahead. We were perfectly happy to rearrange that appointment. All we wanted was to get our little boy fitted for the glasses he urgently needs following extensive hospital investigations. There was no compassion, no willingness to listen, no attempt to offer an alternative and certainly no understanding of the anxiety involved in having a young child with an eye condition. We were simply dismissed and made to feel as though we should leave. To make matters worse, I have since contacted other Specsavers branches and discovered that you don't even need an appointment to choose glasses when you already have a hospital prescription! We could apparently have walked in for that service regardless of our daughter's appointment. Not one member of staff at Westway Cross thought to explain this or offer to help our son separately. Instead, we were effectively ushered out because we had arrived three minutes beyond their five-minute grace period. This is now the second occasion on which this branch has made me feel belittled and unwelcome whilst trying to access eye care for my children. I don't expect special treatment. I don't expect appointments to run late for my convenience. What I do expect is basic courtesy, compassion, professionalism and a little common sense, especially from people working in a healthcare environment dealing with young children. Policies are one thing. The way you treat people is another entirely. Specsavers Westway Cross, you seriously need to address the attitude of your staff. A little kindness and understanding would go an awfully long way. I certainly won't be returning, and I would strongly encourage other parents to consider a different branch, particularly if their child has additional eye care needs.

The staff were friendly and professional throughout. Lots of time and care was taken in picking glasses I specified . The lady did still think outside of the box and brought me a pair I would never pick but I loved them. Lots of humour throughout the eye test which lightened the mood. Could not ask for better staff , exceptional in every way. Well done to the staff 👏👏👏🌹👍♥️😉
