I can’t recommend Chris Thomas highly enough. Training with him at David Lloyd Beckenham has been one of the best decisions I’ve made.
Chris is incredibly knowledgeable and an expert in his field, but what really sets him apart is how much he genuinely cares about the people he works with. During a particularly difficult and emotional time in my life, he didn’t just coach me through workouts – he listened, encouraged, and helped me rebuild my confidence, both physically and mentally and still is!
Every session is tailored, motivating, and challenging in the best possible way. He has an amazing ability to know when to push you and when you simply need someone in your corner.
I’m so grateful for Chris, his professionalism, his kindness, and the support he brings to every session and beyond. If you’re looking for a personal trainer who will invest in you as a person as well as your fitness, I couldn’t recommend him more highly.
I’ve been a member at David Lloyd Beckenham for a while now and honestly, I absolutely love it.
The biggest thing for me is the community feel. The staff are amazing and everyone is so friendly and welcoming - it genuinely feels like more than just a gym.
There are so many classes to choose from, but my favourites have to be yoga and Pilates. Whether you want to train hard, unwind or just try something new, there’s always something going on.
I think a lot of people look at the monthly price and think it’s expensive, but for me it’s worth its weight in gold. It’s so much more than a gym. You can easily spend the whole day here - work from the Clubroom, catch up with friends over lunch, do a workout, relax in the spa, play padel or tennis, swim indoors or outdoors… there’s honestly so much to do. And if you’ve got kids, they’re spoilt for choice too with all the activities and clubs available.
A huge shoutout to Chris Thomas, who’s been my PT. He’s been brilliant, especially with helping me train around injuries, supporting my rehab, and making sure my nutrition is on point. He keeps me accountable, helps me eat the right things at the right times, and it’s made such a difference to my results.
The food is also genuinely delicious with loads of choice for both adults and kids, so you don’t feel like you’re compromising when you eat here.
If you’re thinking about joining… stop thinking and just do it. Your future self will thank you! 💚

I've been training with Chris Thomas at David Lloyd and couldn't be happier with the experience. What really sets Chris apart is his ability to motivate and encourage while making training enjoyable. I’ve been a member of David Lloyd Beckenham for years, and it’s genuinely much more than just a gym. The club has a fantastic atmosphere, excellent facilities and a team of staff who really care about the members.
A special mention has to go to Joanna on reception, who is always friendly, welcoming and a real breath of fresh air. It’s the kind of personal touch that makes you feel valued every time you visit.
Chris Thomas is also an excellent personal trainer with years of experience and knowledge. His sessions are tailored to the individual and focus on much more than simply using gym machines. Whether you’re looking to improve overall fitness, build strength, increase mobility or work on specific problem areas, he creates sessions that challenge you whilst keeping things varied and enjoyable.
The recent upgrades to the gym equipment upstairs have been brilliant, with a great range of modern machines and training areas suitable for all fitness levels. The club also offers a huge variety of classes, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis and padel courts, family activities and wellness programmes.
One of my favourite parts of the club is the spa area. The sauna, steam room, whirlpool, ice room and relaxation spaces provide the perfect place to unwind after a workout or a busy day.
What really sets David Lloyd Beckenham apart is the combination of outstanding facilities and genuinely lovely staff. It feels like a community rather than just a gym, and that’s why I’ve happily remained a member for so many years.
