  Absolutely amazing young blonde girl who helped my mum today. She was so patient, kind and caring throughout the whole situation. She sat and spoke with us, took her time, and really helped calm my mum down as she gets very stressed in situations like that due to her dementia. You could tell she genuinely cared and wanted to help. People like her make such a difference and we really appreciated her kindness and compassion. Thank you so much again.

  We were sent to Vision Express in Tesco Inshes, Inverness by NHS 24 on a Sunday with our 3-year-old son who had suspected conjunctivitis. We had to drive for over an hour from central Scotland because this was the place NHS 24 directed us to for urgent help. When we arrived, the receptionist went to speak with the optometrist (I believe his name was Filip, if I saw correctly). She came back and simply said they would not see our child. No attempt to help. No explanation. No suggestion of what we should do next. Just a flat refusal. So after driving for an hour with a sick 3-year-old, sent there by NHS 24, we were turned away at the desk. What made it even worse was what happened next. We stayed outside Vision Express for another 30 minutes while I called NHS 24 again trying to understand what was going on and what we should do. During that time the optometrist was sitting alone in his room, with no patients, yet still refused to see us. Thankfully the pharmacy inside the same Tesco was open. The pharmacist saw our son within minutes, diagnosed conjunctivitis almost immediately and gave us the eye drops he needed. Calm, professional and helpful — exactly the kind of response you would expect when a parent arrives worried about a small child. The contrast between the two services was stark. One person showed basic professionalism and human decency. The other simply turned a family away without a second thought. I genuinely hope that one day someone close to the staff at Vision Express Inshes finds themselves in a similar situation — needing help, being sent somewhere for care, and then being dismissed in the same way we were. Maybe then they would understand how unacceptable this kind of treatment feels when it’s your child who needs help.
