Joined David loyd almost a year ago to use the gym but mainly for the spa facilities that were promised. What started out as being a month wait for these facilities ended up being over 3 months wait and each time we asked a member of staff for an update we were met with a very frustrated response for asking.
Since the facilities have opened we have yet to find a time that we’re able to come and not expect a long wait time with how many people are here.
The new gym area feels very cramped, often resulting in having to squeeze between machines to get to another or feeling like you’re practically on top of other gym users.
There doesn’t seem to be any regulation on how many people can come in to use the facilities and yet they are still regularly showing people around, accepting new members.
Staff failed to mention that the guest passes that you get once a month only allows limited access to facilities and if you want to bring a guest to the spa it’s an additional £45. This seems less like an attempt to keep numbers down and more like a money making tactic.
Having come to use the gym, spa and pool today with the nice weather I was disappointed with the lack of space available and felt like I was walking into a kids club, every single lounger occupied with a towel or bag. And no space in the pool with the amount of young kids.
I understand this is a family friendly space however it is beginning to feel like I’m paying £130 a month to come to a kids club and not the relaxing spa experience advertised. I appreciate that there are family times and adult times however by the time the adult only zone begins the sun is gone and the pool os in the shade.
On top of this despite the recent refurbishment every time I come multiple pieces of equipment are broken, there’s buckets with a leak or the tiles are coming away from the pool.
The indoor spa pool is also the most unrelaxing experience of my life. The jets meant to sooth and relax actually feel like an assault pushing you over and the chlorine levels are so high that to sit in there results in burning eyes and difficulty breathing.
Beginning to question why the cost is so high when you’d get the same experience somewhere a lot cheaper

Just re-signed up to David Llyod, joining the West End club. We had a wonderful signup experience thanks to Kevin, the Sales Manager. We didn't feel rushed or pressured, and felt like the choice was fully ours. You could see his passion for the club and the community it brings together. I am looking forward to being able to use the facilities again, and the lovely new spa retreat.

I’ve been training with Mark for the past 6 weeks as a complete beginner, and the difference in both my confidence and fitness has been huge.
From day one, Mark has focused on teaching proper form and technique, making sure exercises are performed safely and effectively. His emphasis on injury prevention has given me the confidence to push myself without worrying about doing things incorrectly.
Every session has built on the last, with clear week-on-week progression that has kept me motivated and helped me see real improvements. Mark also provides excellent advice outside of the gym, including guidance on meal planning, nutrition, and progressive overload, which has helped me understand how to get the most from my training.
What has impressed me most is how knowledgeable Mark is about strength training. Even as a beginner, it’s obvious that he has a deep understanding of the subject and knows how to adapt his coaching to different experience levels. That gives me confidence that he’s not only the right coach to help me get started, but also someone who can continue to guide me as my training becomes more advanced and my goals evolve.
On top of being a knowledgeable and professional trainer, Mark is easy to chat to and genuinely enjoyable to spend time with. The sessions are challenging but always enjoyable, which makes it much easier to stay consistent.
I’d highly recommend Mark to anyone, especially those who are new to the gym and looking for someone who can build their confidence, teach the fundamentals properly, and support their long-term progress.

Massively oversubscribed, and don’t listen to complaints when made
We’ve been members at West end for 4 years and until this year it’s been everything you expect of a premium price gym
Unfortunately now they’ve had a refit they also went on a huge recruitment drive and for the last 6 months we regularly have to queue for 15 min or more just to get into the car park,
It’s so busy in the changing rooms that the cleaning staff can’t keep up so the floors are all grimy and slimy underfoot and there’s often queues to have a shower which isn’t great when you have kids to get dry and warm as quick as possible,
We put up with 8 months of them doing work which was supposed to be 3 months whilst still paying membership, because each time we thought about suspending or cancelling we thought it’ll be done soon, the wait will be worth it, and they’ve offered absolutely no recompense other than to say we could’ve suspended our membership for 3 months
We can’t help feeling we’d have been Better off going to a local council run gym

I joined David Lloyd West End in March 2026 on what I was clearly led to believe was a 3-month contract. Only later did I discover it is actually a rolling membership, and not a fixed short-term agreement. If you want to cancel, you’re required to give at least a month or more notice in writing, which is not made clear upfront and feels intentionally misleading.
I joined primarily for the swimming and spa facilities, but they have been extremely disappointing. The outdoor “heated” pool is often freezing cold, to the point where multiple users regularly comment on how uncomfortable it is. In the evenings it is also poorly maintained, frequently containing leaves, insects, and other debris.
The spa pool is another major issue. The chlorine levels are so high that many people, including myself, experience stinging eyes and discomfort while using it. In my case, prolonged exposure triggered serious respiratory issues. I developed chest tightness, wheezing, and breathing difficulties, which my GP advised were consistent with an asthma flare-up triggered by chlorine exposure. I was then referred for further tests and investigations including ECGs, lung imaging, and respiratory assessments, and prescribed new inhalers.
When I attempted to cancel due to medical advice telling me to stop using the facilities, I was told in person that I had to go through online customer service instead. The response times are slow and require repeated follow-ups over several days. Despite providing GP notes, I was told this was not sufficient and that I would need an official doctor’s letter explicitly stating I cannot use any facilities.
Obtaining this additional letter is both time-consuming and expensive through private healthcare, and the delay makes it practically impossible to resolve within a reasonable timeframe. Overall, the process feels obstructive and inflexible, particularly given the medical circumstances.
My experience with customer service has been frustrating and unhelpful, with little willingness to offer practical solutions while continuing to charge ongoing fees.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend this gym. I would strongly advise anyone considering joining to carefully review the contract terms and cancellation policy, and think twice before committing.
Oh, and don’t trust the overall 4 star rating. That’s filled with comments regarding the introduction tours to the club, where you’re pretty much forced to give a 5 star rating on the spot.
