Staff are nice and welcoming however as it stands in terms of facilities and price it’s awful. Outside pool often out of use, no sauna, no jacuzzi, no steam room and a lot of the time the main pool is busy due to the lack of other facilities. Never anywhere to park and there are no signs of things improving until early-mid next year. I currently have have 6 months left on my contract and was hoping to have my step son removed from my membership as he has some health conditions that have arisen, however his mother is not willing to provide medical proof as she’d rather me waste my money and David Lloyd still won’t do anything to compensate even though they are lacking a lot of facilities I prioritise and can see the kid has suddenly stopped using his membership. Basically now paying £198 a month to use the gym, awful.

I had a tour of David Lloyd Eastbourne with Emil and couldn’t have asked for a better introduction to the club. He showed me everything I wanted to see and more, answered every question I threw at him, and gave me some helpful pointers on which classes are worth trying. It’s clear Emil really knows the club inside out and genuinely believes in what it offers, which made the whole experience feel relaxed rather than salesy. We finished up in the café, which was a nice way to round things off and chat through everything. Thanks Emil, highly recommend asking for him if you’re thinking of joining!
Excellent club previously, but appalling member treatment and communication during renovations.
Prior to the major renovation project, the club was exceptional, and we had no issues at all. Unfortunately, the way members have been treated throughout these works has been completely unacceptable.
When the pool and spa areas were initially closed, no reduced rates were offered, though some members were given the option to pause their memberships. The pool eventually reopened, but the club then confirmed that the spa facilities would remain closed until Spring 2027. This crucial information had not been shared previously, and management was deliberately opaque when asked about reopening timelines. Had we known the full extent of the closure upfront, we would have cancelled our membership much earlier.
Given this extended loss of core facilities—which significantly alters the terms of membership—the right approach from David Lloyd would have been to allow members to cancel without enforcing the standard three-month notice period. Instead, communication has been non-existent: phone calls and emails go unanswered for days, leaving members with no reliable point of contact at the club.
Despite pointing out that these prolonged closures constitute a breach of contract and consumer rights, David Lloyd refuses to acknowledge responsibility, dismisses any wrongdoing regarding their communication, and completely rejects attempts to resolve the dispute. Our dispute is currently being considered by Trading Standards.
In summary, be wary of joining. Everything runs smoothly until something goes wrong or you need support, at which point communication breaks down entirely and the organisation becomes unresponsive. For the cost of membership, it simply isn't worth it.
