  For £240 a month, the standard at this club has become completely unacceptable.Most of the treadmills are either broken, rattling, or cutting out mid‑run — which is not only frustrating but unsafe. Members are paying premium prices for equipment that wouldn’t pass in a budget gym.Staff openly admit that David Lloyd is tied into a contract with an external company and therefore can’t repair or replace the treadmills. That’s not a valid excuse. It simply shows poor planning and even poorer reinvestment.The changing rooms are no better. A large number of lockers are broken and unusable, leaving members hunting for somewhere to store their belongings. Again, this is basic maintenance that a club charging this much should have sorted immediately.It feels as though David Lloyd knows there are no competing premium gyms nearby, so there’s no urgency to maintain the facilities or deliver the standard members are paying for.The only positive is the staff — they remain polite and helpful — but they’re clearly powerless to fix the underlying issues.Overall, the club is failing to deliver anything close to a premium experience, and members deserve far better for the price being charged.

  Great club, but unreturned weights are a safety hazard Everything is good overall, but cleanliness and safety need to stay at a top tier level. Management really needs to implement a system of penalties for members who don't put their dumbbells and weights back. Leaving them on the floor makes it unsafe to walk and creates a major tripping hazard.

  I spoke with Cherry about starting swimming lessons and she was so helpful. She was extremely kind and made her best effort to find a lesson time and date that worked for me and was always approachable and contactable for any help I needed.

  I’m honestly sick of the constant air conditioning and heating issues at this club. Every summer the air conditioning stops working, and every winter the heating stops working. The upstairs gym floor regularly feels like a sauna, making it uncomfortable and unpleasant to train. Members pay a premium membership fee and should not have to put up with the same issue year after year. What is even more frustrating is that whenever members raise concerns, we are told it has “just broken this morning.” That explanation might work once, but not when the same problem keeps happening repeatedly. I and 5 other people I know will be submitting formal complaints to David Lloyd senior management, later today if its not sortedthe relevant auditing teams, and review platforms. I will also be encouraging other members affected by these ongoing issues to do the same. This has been going on for far too long. Members deserve a clear explanation, a permanent solution, and immediate action.

  Extremely misleading contract advice and poor family service We booked a tour at David Lloyd Chigwell for two adults and our 2-year-old. An hour and a half before arriving, we were phoned and explicitly told to bring our gear as 'the offer was there' to use the facilities after the tour. We weren't going to, but thought we might as well in the end, and went through the faff of packing everything to take with us (including things needed for a toddler). When we arrived, we were told we could not use the facilities after all (as we wanted to think about what plan might be best before signing-up), showing a total lack of respect for a young family's time. Furthermore, the sales information provided was incredibly concerning. The representative claimed we could sign a 12-month fixed contract and they would just cancel it early within the 12 months if we changed our minds, a claim that directly violates David Lloyd’s strict terms. While the facilities look great, the disingenuous and unethical sales tactics and broken promises left a terrible impression, so there's absolutely no way I want to sign anything with these guys now or in the future.
