Very disappointing experience I had a very disappointing experience today, which I honestly did not expect from Vision Express, a place I have always considered my first choice for eye care. I have visited several Vision Express branches across the UK before and have always received excellent service. Today, however, was completely different. I received an SMS inviting me to book an eye test covered by the NHS. Based on that message, I chose this branch and booked an appointment for 3:30 pm. After making the booking, I called the branch specifically to confirm whether the eye test was free. One of the staff members clearly confirmed that it was. I then drove around 5 miles to attend the appointment. Unfortunately, in the middle of the eye test, I was suddenly told that the test was not free. When I tried to show the staff the SMS I had received, instead of helping to resolve the situation, several team members gathered around and made me feel as though I was at fault. I found this extremely disappointing and uncomfortable. If the appointment was not eligible for a free NHS eye test, this should have been clearly explained before I travelled to the branch and started the appointment. In the end, there was no reasonable solution offered, so I simply had to drive another 5 miles back home. I have always had a positive opinion of Vision Express, which is why this experience was particularly disappointing. I hope the mamagement will look into what happened, especially the communication regarding the NHS-funded eye test, and ensure that other customers do not have the same experience.

The staff at Baildon are so,so good. It's always a pleasurable experience. This time I had arrived early and had 'nosey' around the shop, I was looking at the smart glasses as I've never had the opportunity before. The blonde lady showed me how smart they are . She was very enthusiastic about the technology. It was a sunny day, nice location, what more can I say.

The staff in the shop front are fantastic, however, there is a different optician every time i go. I’m autistic and the optician was giving instructions so fast that i got really overwhelmed, i said i was having trouble processing the information. I don’t think she even understood about sensory and auditory processing differences in autism. She just said she only had a certain amount of time to get the assessment done and did not slow down. I burst into tears because i was so stressed — i tend to dissociate and my pupils dilate so every becomes blurry. This is not a safe way to work. Another autistic person might have just accepted the wrong prescription glasses just to get out. I felt so unheard. I appreciate that there’d been an urgent walk-in patient although she never actually told me this, just assumed i would know. The hospital (regarding the other patient) called when i was in the room and she started to breach confidentiality by discussing the urgent patient. I left the room as i knew it wasn’t appropriate for her to discuss a patient in front of another client. I appreciate that her day had gone a bit pear-shaped with the urgent client and then trying to catch up, but she should have seen the flagged reminder that am autistic and that i may or may not need reasonable adjustments. Advocating for myself was essentially ignored. I could not complete the assessment and the shop floor staff member who has worked there a long time rebooked me in for a double appointment. I could see from her face that she wanted to apologise however said nothing. (the optician who saw me for the second appointment went at a pace that didn’t overwhelm me and explained what she was doing and waited for me to respond or engage in my own time - i was really anxious when arrived because of what had happened the time before and started crying as soon as i arrived, which suggests that the impact of not understanding autism had a significantly negative impact that could have been avoidable. It would have been better for her to give me the option of coming back another day or at least explaining and apologising for the lateness due to an urgent patient—actually i think she did say sorry for being late but did not say why or that it meant she would need to work a bit faster. i don’t remember names but the second optician (who was lovely) had a Scottish accent.
