I am writing to formally document the experiences my family and I had with Brightmoor Hospice regarding the at-home care and in unit care provided to my mother for her bone cancer. We encountered several significant issues that we believe require immediate attention and formal record.
During her care, we experienced recurring coordination problems with at home services and prescription deliveries. On two occasions we traveled 30 minutes to pick up emergency medication as the order was not sent in to the pharmacy or delivered at home. Most concerning was the lack of physician involvement; the attending doctor did not meet my mother until she had been under the agency’s care for five weeks. Throughout this time, the doctor was slow in our opinion to authorize necessary pain management. When he finally evaluated her, he admitted that a previously prescribed medication he ordered was ineffective for someone of her physical stature. As a result of his treatment plan, my mother suffered unnecessarily for several weeks.
I previously reported concerns directly to the owner of Brightmoor Hospice, but I have received no follow-up or resolution. I am sharing this detailed account to ensure these failures are addressed and to urge others to thoroughly research providers when seeking hospice services.
Sincerely
Linda McPadden

I just want to take a moment to recognize what an amazing job Tami does leading the arts and crafts class. She is incredibly respectful of our seniors and truly understands their abilities and interests. Her projects are thoughtful, creative, and age-appropriate — nothing that feels childish or like something meant for elementary school kids. You can tell she puts real care into selecting and designing each craft specifically for seniors.
She leads the class with patience and kindness, always paying close attention to everyone. If someone needs extra help, she gives personal attention without making them feel rushed or embarrassed. Her classes are always full, which says everything — people genuinely look forward to attending and always leave happy.
She represents the company extremely well and brings such positive energy to the group. We are very grateful to have her, and I highly recommend her classes to anyone looking for a meaningful, enjoyable senior activity.

Brightmoor Hospice in Griffin was such a blessing during a most difficult time. Katie, our father's nurse took such great care of him with compassion and dignity. Dad passed away peacefully surrounded by love and grace. Thank you Brightmoor Hospice Griffin for the lovely way you allow our father to spend his last remaining days here on earth.
Frequently Asked Questions About Brightmoor Hospice
What is hospice?
Hospice is a team approach to patient care that focuses on quality of life. Rather than seeking a cure, hospice care focuses on the patient’s comfort, offering support that addresses the patient’s physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Hospice also provides practical support to caregivers during the patient’s illness and grief support. Hospice is not a place, rather a philosophy of care. Most hospice services are in the patient’s home, whether that is a nursing home, assisted living facility, or an in-home setting. At the center of hospice and palliative care is the belief that each of us has the right to be pain-free, maintain dignity, and that our families receive the necessary support to allow us to do so.
What services does hospice care include?
Hospice care includes registered nurses who act as the liaison between the patient and hospice medical director, certified nursing aide to help with personal care, and medical equipment and medicines related to the patient’s hospice diagnosis. It also includes the option of receiving chaplain, social worker, and volunteer services. Plans of care for hospice patients are overseen by the hospice medical director. Hospice patients are also eligible to receive respite care and access to a hospice inpatient unit for symptom control and management.
When should a person seek hospice care?
If a patient has a life-limiting illness and wishes to not seek aggressive curative care, then it may be time to seek hospice care. Although family members can initiate hospice services, the patient must have a doctor’s order, stating they are appropriate for hospice care. It must be approved by our medical director. It is never too early to seek hospice care. Contact us.
What is the cost of hospice care?
Hospice care is covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private plans. In 1983, Congress established the Medicare Hospice Benefit Act allowing Medicare and Medicaid to pay for hospice services.
How does the hospice admission process work?
Although anyone can call Brightmoor Hospice and ask about a loved one admitted onto hospice services, the patient’s doctor must make a referral for hospice care. Once the referral is received by our admission staff, the caregiver will be contacted to schedule a time to further discuss services. Our admission nurse will determine if the patient is ready for hospice by performing an evaluation for admission. The admission nurse will also discuss your loved one’s specific needs to develop an individualized plan of care.
Our qualified and empathetic admission staff is here to guide you through our hospice admission process. Contact us for information.
