Great experience today. My appointment was on time. I saw the doctor in a timely manner. The staff was efficient. I’ve been going to this office for a while. Several years. As a sidenote, I was the first appointment in the morning. I have been pleased with the medical care in this office overall

I have no complaints about the staff. Everyone was friendly and competent. I have major issues with the office. Dr. Weeks is listed as seeing pediatric patients. There were probably 12 kids in the waiting room. There are signs put up in several places that say “expect at least a 2 hour wait.” I understand the waiting part. What I don’t understand is how there is absolutely nothing in the waiting room for kids. There were 2 large tvs and both were playing adds on a loop for eye medications. There were no toys or kids books. No changing table in the bathroom. As a mom with 3 little kids it is difficult to keep them settled for 2+ hours without some form of entertainment. Mickey Mouse on the tv would have gone a LONG way. Also when we went to check out my 5 year old daughter asked if they would have a sticker or sucker (her other ophthalmologist office use to have a treasure box). They said they had nothing. I understand there is cost involved in these things but those changes would go a long way to help kids feel safe and not be so nervous to go.

I arrived early for my 10am appointment to complete all paperwork before 10am. I left the office at 12:20pm. I was tested and examined by a tech then the doctor for a total of about 45 minutes. The rest of the time was waiting in a few parts but totaling a lot of waiting. The office pace seem to run at this slow pace and everyone suffered along. No apologies. No recognition that 2 hours and 20 minutes at their office for a sty in my eye was excessive. And that was after scheduling the earliest appointment available and waiting 9 business days to get in to the doctor. I won’t be back.

Terrible experience. The staff is stressed and overworked. I had no idea a simple eye exam would take nearly 4 hours. They said it was unusual, but whe speaking with other patients waiting they all said this was normal and pointed to signs on every end table stating that each appointment could take more than 2-3 hours. This is their normal mode of operation. I spoke to the office manager and she said she’s only been there since January and knows there needs to be changes. This is no way to operate a business. I’m sure their surgeon is good, therefore busy, but I’ll be going somewhere else and recommending others elsewhere. I would have preferred driving into Atlanta to speak to an excellent surgeon than to have waited there all that time.

Do not bring your kids here. Truly horrible experience. If you aren’t equipped to see children, just say so. When you first walk into the waiting room there are signs posted everywhere saying be prepared to wait 2-3 hours. Seriously? Why? That’s the kind of thing that should be sent in an appointment email, not sprung on you once you walk in that you are about to waste half of your day. I had all of my kids with me. After waiting 1 hour from appointment time we were brought back by the absolute rudest tech. Grey curly hair and lots of makeup, no name tag. She was passive aggressive and annoyed with my 6 year old because his eyes kept watering with the machine so close to his face. The chair was set up so he had to strain to keep his chin in the chin rest and she was frustrated with him that he wasn’t sitting still even though he was trying to comply. When it came time to dilate his eyes, i was trying to prepare him and explain to him that he could shut his eyes and let her drop it into the corner and then blink, but she didn’t wait and dropped it into his open eye. He started to cry and even the other tech (who was very kind) walking by reprimanded her and told her she should let him close his eyes. Then she said “I did!!” For his next eye I had him close it, but he was already upset so he was crying and she muttered under her breath “well I think he did better the way I did it the first time.” Oh okay. So was his eye open or closed the first time? Which was it? Seeing Dr Gabrels was okay and his bedside manner was a bit better but when he asked if I had any questions, I asked if he read his health history and he held his hands up and shrugged dismissively. Okay, so no. Why did I fill out all these forms??? My 6 year old son is a leukemia survivor which I had detailed in his forms, so I wanted them to know that and tailor their suggestions for care based off of if we needed to watch anything specific due to the amount of chemotherapy and steroids he received from ages 2-5. I shared all of this and he suggested photos of the back of his eyes which we did. The front desk staff was kind and I appreciated the one tech who stopped and told the tech to wait till his eye was closed. Otherwise, very poor experience. I told the front desk staff as I left about our experience with the tech. Overall, we were there forever, the tech was an absolute nightmare and should not be in a room with children, I had to advocate for proper care, and I don’t even trust the advice we got so I’m taking him to another eye doctor next week. I hope you treat your adult patients better, and you should stop taking children.
