Worst medical company I've ever dealt with. Actually, NSM is the worst company of any kind in any industry I've ever dealt with. If I could leave a negative 100 star review I'd do it. I spent 2 years trying to get a new chair from NSM. They went months without responding to my update inquiries. When I'd finally get a returned call, email or text, it was as if no progress whatsoever had been made. After nearly a full year, they delivered a chair that was completely unusable. How did NSM respond? "Well, can you learn to live with these problems with the chair?" That's a direct quote from the manager of the Chamblee office. Of course, I refused to accept that chair and went through another full year of NSM's incompetence while trying to get a chair that'd work for me. As of this date, still nothing from NSM. I finally decided to try a different vendor, AbleTec. In less than 3 months, I received a new chair that works perfectly for me. Had I continued to try to go through NSM, my chair would've been fully paid for by my insurance company -- not even a copay was required. AbleTec is a much smaller outfit that's not on my insurance company's approved vendor list. That meant I had to pay the full price ($4785.00) myself. I'd do it again without hesitation. I've urged my insurance company to drop NSM from their network. Do yourselves a monumental favor and stay as far away as possible from NSM. They're a terribly run company that can't be trusted to do anything right.

I began my application with National Seating & Mobility in April 2025 for a Cubby Bed for my child. I initially spoke with Patty, who explained she was backlogged and that the process could take several months. I carefully documented everything she said was needed to start the application and submitted all requested information promptly. In every email, I asked her to let me know if anything further was needed and included my contact information for easy reference.
The only response I received from Patty was on May 10, 2025, requesting insurance information that had already been provided both in writing and via photo attachments. After that, despite leaving voicemails and sending follow-up emails every couple of weeks for months, I received no further communication.
Out of respect for her stated backlog, I stopped following up at the end of June, assuming the delay was simply part of the process. When my child’s needs increased and the bed became more urgent, I contacted the company in September for a status update. By that time, National Seating & Mobility had begun funneling calls through an offsite call center, and there was no direct way to reach Patty (except emails that she had yet to respond to).
After multiple calls, I was first told my order was “on hold,” then later informed it had actually been cancelled—supposedly due to missing physician contact information. This information had already been submitted with the initial paperwork, and no one ever contacted me to request clarification or notify me that the application had been cancelled.
After escalating the issue through corporate, Patty eventually returned my call weeks later. During that conversation, she initially attempted to deflect responsibility before confirming that she personally cancelled the order on July 7th, without notifying me.
At that point, six months had been lost while trying to secure a medically necessary safety bed for my child. During our conversation, Patty stated that she “decides” which children receive Cubby Beds due to limited resources, specifically referencing preferences for older children with seizures. My child’s age had been disclosed during our first call in April, and seizures are not a requirement for a Cubby Bed. My child does meet the actual eligibility criteria.
When I asked her to reopen the application and provide a clear list of remaining requirements, she agreed to reopen it but refused to expedite despite the urgency and prior delays. She also refused to send a follow-up email during our call and only said she would “try” to send one by the end of the week. Throughout the conversation, she repeatedly stated that certain basic communication steps were “not her job.”
Feeling desperate to ensure my child’s safety and having lost confidence in this process, I contacted Griffin Medical Services. In less than two months, they initiated the application, appealed an insurance denial, won the appeal, and delivered the bed.
This experience demonstrated that the bed was both medically necessary and entirely possible to obtain in a timely manner—with proper communication and advocacy. Unfortunately, that was not my experience with National Seating & Mobility.

Nick Brown is a fantastic rep for National Seating. He went the distance to make sure the new batteries were installed in my mother’s wheel chair. He went over all the safety features. He’s very kind and considerate and recommend him highly.

Nicholas Brown provided excellent service. He arrived early and quickly got to work on my repairs. When I needed to excuse myself so I could attend to my baby, he assured me that he was in no rush. He thoroughly explained what he needed to order to repair my armrest. He made sure that the chest strap he installed on my chair worked properly before leaving.

I'm so satisfied and thankful that I really don't know where to start. I have a 14 year old, non-verbal, autistic son that has a vitamin D deficiency. After my sons second fracture and not knowing how he was hurting himself, I was exhausted and very anxious to find a solution to keep my son safe.... I didn't mention that he is also an eloper and has gotten out of the house while everyone was asleep, several times, despite our safety precautions. So of course when I heard about the Cubby Bed, I felt some relief. I've tried the process with other vendors and wasn't successful, didn't hear anything back, just nothing, but after his 2nd fracture and several emergency room visits, I was informed by a nurse that had gotten National Seating and Mobility info from another parent, so of course I started making calls right away!
I started the process with the Cubby bed coordinator by the name of Patty Leigh, this woman is awesome! From start to finish, Patty made sure that I had everything that I needed from paper work to appts, down to the time frames and tracking... I will not forget to add that the bed was delivered, set up and explained ahead of schedule! National Seating and Mobility is your vendor! Trust me! Out of all the chaos that was going on at that time, I really appreciated how smooth this entire process was and the care that was provided. Thank you all again!
Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
