Home Instead takes incredible care of my Great Uncle. He wants more than anything in the world to stay in his condo and live an independent life outside of a nursing home. Home Instead allows these wishes to come true. They are there with him 24/7, treat him with the utmost respect and care. He absolutely adore his care takers and is finally relaxed and enjoying his golden years at his home, not in a nursing home. I would recommend home instead to anyone in a similar situation!

The home helper assigned to me was very friendly and in the beginning hard working. She insisted that we become friends on social media, although this is officially against the company policy and I should not have accepted. However, I did and we became “friends” on social media. This is when the problems began. The home helper would complain to me about her other clients, how her job was not enjoyable. She also complained that she was not paid enough. She even on occasion gave me the names and general location of where these “annoying” clients live. I started to feel sorry for her and began to give her cash tips and a gift card at Christmas, after she had complained that all her agency gave her for Christmas was a t shirt with “Home Instead” branded on it. She also complained about her agencies office staff and scheduling issues. She came to work late more and more often. She would stay late to “make up the time” but most of the time when she stayed, it was social time sitting on the couch and not working. Our “friendship” was getting in the way of her work. She was being unprofessional with her comments about her home life and working with other clients. After a particularly bad day where she left in the middle of her shift to get some candy. I felt I had had enough. Through an instant message, I brought to her attention that I required her to arrive on time and to not socialize as much. I was attempting to gently remind her that she is employed to work, not socialize. Her response was to get very upset and state that all that she did for me was because we are friends. She was an employee of a company who was employed to work, not sit on my couch. She even stated that she was “not my personal maid” an odd statement considering that I have a separate maid service that I employ and only asked her to clean the kitchen after cooking regularly. I did ask her to sweep and vacuum on occasion, which was all agreed with the sales rep when the contract was signed for home helper. After the outbursts and unprofessional attitude from the home helper. I spoke with the agency and made them aware of the situation. After several business days I was contacted and told that my home health aide would no longer work for me and that no one at the agency could cook, do light cleaning, and take out the trash, in addition to a few tasks as needed. I was told nothing I asked my helper to do was “inappropriate” only that “the scope” was not something they would do. No suggestion was made to have a helper for more hours, a different helper.. etc. They offered to have someone cook for me only one last shift for my “nutritional needs”. Yes, like most people I do need to eat, how kind of them? How odd that “The scope” changed very little from the original list I submitted to the sales rep on the first day I met with the agency. If several new items were added, I would hire the home helper for additional hours, so she would have the extra time and be compensated, I am extremely disappointed with the professionalism of this agency, it’s office staff had several billing issues, even once billing me for extra time the worker had stayed because she arrived late. The office once exposed my full credit card and expiration date in an open email! The home helper that was assigned to me complained about every task she was given, had a very poor work ethic, was not punctual, and tried to convince me to join her religious organization, even supplying books written by her pastor.
