I had a very disappointing experience at the Sanford LensCrafters location, both with the retail side and the eye exam.
From the service perspective, communication was extremely poor. I was told I’d receive a call by Isabella, my sales representative, when my glasses arrived or if there were timing issues due to my travel schedule. That never happened. I spent the day waiting, made a phone call to the store only for Emmanuel to inform me that he couldn’t find my information, and ultimately drove to the store after receiving a pickup text—only to find out my glasses had already been shipped without a check-in to see if I was still in town nor explanation. Multiple staff members couldn’t locate my order, and Isabella avoided the situation entirely. It was disorganized, frustrating, and a waste of time and gas. The experience seemed to be focused on satisfaction of making a sale rather than doing the work to make a guest have a great end to end experience.
As for the eye exam itself, the experience felt very “assembly-line” and transactional—more like a fast-food model than a healthcare visit. Dr. Nguyen was clearly knowledgeable and not rude, but she came across as short and curt. I had to repeatedly probe and advocate for myself to get answers, explanations, or clarity about my eye health.
There was little to no education provided before Dr. Nguyen’s evaluation about optional add-ons like dilation—no explanation of why they mattered or what they would show. As a result, I declined some services simply because no one explained their importance. Even after the exam, I left feeling confused because nothing that Dr. Nguyen communicated to me was in writing. Overall, I learned more only because I actively pushed for information, but didn’t leave confident about my eye health—especially after being told my vision is getting worse.
There didn’t seem to be adequate time or space for patients to truly ask questions or seek understanding. While Dr. Nguyen’s “tough love”, matter-of-fact approach worked, I wish there was more time allotted to patient education on their individual needs.
Overall, this experience confirmed that I’d rather continue seeing an independent eye doctor than a large chain. Between the poor communication, lack of personalization, and rushed care, I won’t be returning.

So far, I've been very satisfied with each aspect of getting a new pair of glasses, from doc and assistants to whoever was on the floor to further my choice and finalize a purchase. I hope to be able to continue using LensCrafters in Sanford,FL in the future, and recommend it to others.

Taking your child to an optometrist for an eye exam is the best way to learn if your child needs glasses. Many children who need glasses aren’t aware that they do. Signs of vision problems in children include sitting too close to the television, squinting, sensitivity to light, difficulty with eye-hand coordination, and avoiding visual activities like reading and drawing. To see if your child needs glasses, schedule your child’s eye exam today.
Is a contact lens exam different than an eye exam?
A normal, comprehensive eye exam will allow your optometrist to determine if your eyes are healthy enough to wear contact lenses. During your contact lens fitting, detailed measurements of your eyes will be taken to determine the right contact lenses for you. There is an additional fee for a contact lens fitting and evaluation for all contact lens patients (both new and established patients). Schedule your eye exam today to have all of your questions about contact lenses answered.
What is the difference between an eye exam and a vision screening?
A comprehensive eye exam is administered by an optometrist and can detect not only vision problems but problems with eye health and general health as well. A vision screening is typically performed by a general medical practitioner such as a pediatrician or a nurse. While a vision screening can help identify vision issues, it can miss many important issues that a comprehensive eye exam can identify. This is why everyone is encouraged to get annual eye exams. Schedule your eye exam today!
Why should I get an eye exam?
An annual eye exam involves more than just updating your glasses or contact prescription. A comprehensive eye exam can also detect eye health issues as well as general health problems. Conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure can be detected in early stages through an eye exam, and this can result in early treatment. Schedule your annual eye exam today.
What should I bring to my eye exam?
You should bring your vision insurance and medical insurance information to your eye exam. If you currently wear any prescription lenses, bring your eyeglasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses. You should also bring any and all questions you may have. Contact your optometrist if you have specific questions about any additional items you think you may need to bring to your eye exam.
