I am a HHA working for a local Home Health Agency here in Pensacola. My client has a motorized wheelchair that is serviced by National Seating and Mobility. She has been having trouble with her chair for several weeks and has been calling trying to get help for a while. I have witnessed her family and friends call on her behalf to try and get her some maintenance and be spoken to in a less than pleasant manner in regards to their concern for their loved one. I too have called several times to get her help and was rarely ever able to get through. The company’s automated representative says they will return any missed calls before 4PM and/or closing but they never do. When I have been able to get through I have been told that they only make one visit a week to our area and can’t get out in a timely manner, only to come when the time arrives and do little to nothing to help my client. Their last visit to her home was to fix some loose wires and correct her faulty foot rest so her feet aren’t dragging on the ground. They told her they could only do a temporary fix because of stripped screws, did not fix her foot rests, and have not been back since; despite the many calls we have made since then to get her help. This is disheartening to watch my client struggle with her chair seeing as how it’s her only means of getting out of bed and out of the house. At this point I am hesitant to leave her alone when they arrive because it seems as if they take advantage of her obviously disability and aren’t very helpful when she’s the only one home to greet them when they arrive. From the looks of the reviews and photos here on google it looks as if this company has a tendency to show favoritism. Whether that be based on class, race, etc. I’m not sure, what is to blame for this companies extreme disregard and lack of compassion for my client’s circumstances. I am a mandated reporter, obligated to report any fraud, waste, and abuse I witness and it is my duty to advocate for those who struggle advocating for themselves. I hope this review encourages others with loved ones experiencing anything remotely similar to speak up in regards to a lack of support and empathy from companies like this. I hope this company does better.

I am so grateful for Kerri and Dennis at National Seating. They realize how my scooter isn’t just a “thing”, it is my life. I teach from it, I take care of my kids and family from it- basically live my life from it. They know this and treat it and me with respect. I travel from almost Alabama to see them and would highly recommend them to anyone in need of mobility equipment or repair. Thank you Kerri and Dennis!

Frequently Asked Questions About National Seating & Mobility
What makes NSM the preferred choice for obtaining mobility solutions?
At NSM, we are uniquely positioned to search hundreds of sources for the precise components needed to create a chair that is made specifically to meet the needs of each client. Each chair can be designed for maximum comfort and ease and will provide the specific therapeutic benefits prescribed for you by the health care team. But what really sets NSM apart is our approach. We work from the heart, honoring your journey of independence with efficient, friendly attention that puts your interests first. This is our life’s work—to help others move through life—and we take it very seriously.
How can I work with NSM for my mobility needs?
National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
