Let me first mention that I live in Fort Myers and work for a living and commute to Naples (60 mile roundtrip). My consultation appointment was thorough and informative. I did like the doctor. However, the doctor was one hour late getting into the office due what I was told was some personal obligations. I had the first appointment of the day. I was told that I needed to make an appointment to come back for an injection and a subsequent appointment for a mouth scan so that they could make an appliance for my mouth. Needless to say, between the drive and the time at the office, I was out of work for about 3 hours which didn’t make me happy but I try to be understanding so I wrote it off as a one-time experience. When I returned for the injection appointment a couple of weeks later, I was told that no injection would take place as this was only a consultation about the shot and I needed to reschedule again to come back for an injection. I wasn’t pleased about this. I was already told about the injection during the consultation and didn’t understand why it was necessary for me to pay for another office visit which was less than 5 minutes with no injection. I had to take time off of work again, pay more money and drive another 60 miles for what I felt was an unnecessary consultation. What made the experience additionally aggravating was that since I had two appointments that day, including this one, I decided to take the day off of work because the appointments were so far apart on that day. I’ve worked at my current employer for quite a long time so I receive a lot of vacation days and never can use them all. My company also pays me for any days I don’t take each year. Since this visit appeared to have no really value and I felt I should not have been there in the first place, I felt I paid for an unnecessary office visit and lost several hundreds of dollars for the lost Personal Time Off day as I would have been paid for it at the end of the year. My third visit was for my appliance scan to have one fabricated. I waited for about an hour in the waiting room after the scheduled time for the appointment and was called up the front desk. I was informed that they were still waiting for my insurance approval and that I needed to leave and wait for a callback when the approval was received. Why was I not called before my visit and told this? I drove once again from Naples to wait 45 minutes to be told to leave to schedule another appointment and time away from work. All-in-all, I currently feel unappreciated and that my time and money are not of any concern to this medical office. The tally for all the services provided was well over $1k with no relief. Not happy to say the least. If you are to take a look at my other Google reviews, I’m one of those people that complains a lot. However, this experience was enough for me to write this review.

First off I wish there was a way to leave two separate reviews. My experience with the surgeon who pulled a tooth that was a very difficult one was fabulous. He did a wonderful job explaining everything and I only had a local anesthetic and didn't feel a thing. Very professional. Where my issue comes in is billing. During my initial consultation in late 2025 my good faith estimate was $866. When I came back on March 11th of this year to see if it was ready to move forward for the implant, mysteriously my out-of-pocket went from $866 to $6,358. I of course raised that issue with the person in the billing department that I didn't understand how that could change and initially was told insurance is different. The only problem with that is I actually purchased a better dental insurance policy that had better coverage than my 2025 policy. I was told at that meeting that someone would get back to me and let me know if there could be any resolution through the insurance company. A day later the same person did give me a call back. And told me that after re-running it through insurance, it was down to $3,496. Although I appreciate cutting it almost in half, I was still rather upset that my original estimate was $866 and now it had gone up 400%. During that conversation I was told that it would be forwarded to the office manager for further discussion. Between March 12 and March 26 I called the practice three times and was put into voicemail all three times and left messages regarding this issue, praying for a call back. No one ever called me back. Finally, a few days ago I did get a human to answer and upon looking through the notes, they told me that an email had been sent earlier in the month to the office manager regarding this issue. I was told that it would be brought to the office manager's attention again and that they would contact me. That was on March 30th and no one has bothered to call me. I'm very disappointed in what appeared to be a bait and switch in terms of the coverage going from where my out of pocket was $866 to my out-of-pocket being $3,696. Somewhat in their defense my second good faith estimate that they gave me included additional things that needed to be done to do the implant. My issue is that I should have been told up front at my first appointment, when I received the first good faith estimate, that these other procedures may be necessary. As of today, nobody has still reached out after leaving separate messages requesting to talk to somebody. I guess I'll be looking for another oral surgeon. Again, this is no reflection on the doctor, but whoever is in charge of billing and insurance is incredibly non-responsive and that is just not acceptable.

This group should be ashamed of themselves, particularly Dr. Satz. Dr. Satz is listed as the only TMJ specialist in Fort Myers that is part of Aetna's in-network group. When I say the only one, I mean the only one. There is no other TMJ specialist in-network for Aetna in all of Lee and Collier County, possibility the entire west coast. Dr. Satz has decided that he no longer wants to work out of the Fort Myers office, so he is only seeing patients in the Naples office, but the Naples office is out of network. So, if you want to see Dr. Satz, whether you are a new or existing patient, you are no longer able to pay in-network rates -- even though Dr. Satz is listed on Aetna's member site as an in-network provider. The out of network rate is about $850 FOR ONE VISIT. The receptionist at the Fort Myers office said they were "seeking credentials" for the Naples office to be in-network for Aetna. Meanwhile, Dr. Satz has decided it's totally ethical to stop seeing patients in the Fort Myers office while the Naples office is in process of getting credentials. The receptionist seriously suggested that I drive to FORT LAUDERDALE 250 miles away to receive in-network care. Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery is an unethical medical practice. There is no justification for abandoning your in-network patients for an out-of-network office. There is no justification for not informing Aetna that Dr. Satz is no longer in network. The choice that Dr. Satz made move offices before the new office is credentialed goes against the oath doctors make to put the care of their patients above all else. There is a provider deficiency in Fort Myers for TMJ Specialists. And now that Dr. Satz has made the decision to abandon the Fort Myers office, there is no one in Aetna's network that is providing this care. As your duty, Dr. Satz, you should be continuing to provide care until this gap is filled or your Naples office is credentialed. You should AT LEAST tell Aetna that you're not providing care at the Fort Myers location anymore so that Aetna can fill the gap. It's literally disgraceful for a doctor / medical group to behave this way, without any concern for patient needs or the rights of the insurance group to be informed of changes. I will be reporting this group and Dr. Satz to Aetna. I hope anyone who reads this message lets Dr. Satz and this group know how it makes them feel to be refused affordable, accessible care.

The staff members were very friendly and helpful. They took care of the urgency of the needed treatment in a very timely manner. Dr. Hogan was wonderful. He made me feel at ease as I was very nervous and concerned about the procedure. He has a magic hand, I did not feel anything and he made the procedure very painless. Thanks to all the members of his team for the post procedural care. I recommend Southwest Florida Oral & Facial Surgery to anyone looking for dental surgical care.
