If I could rate my experience negative stars I would. The staff were rude and unprofessional. It took them 6 hours to discharge me over a problem that could’ve been solved in an hour. At the beginning of my visit, I was sobbing and begging for 45 minutes for them to give me pain medication. Nothing would have been done if my mom hadn’t kept asking the staff to come and help me. I went in to my visit originally because my drain kept reinflating and they told me they had no one to look at my drain. They did a bunch of unnecessary tests and didn’t even look at my wounds until I was about to be discharged. The cherry on top was the doctor telling me to ask chatgpt on how to use a medical device they gave me. The entire staff made me feel like I was crazy and like I was the one in the wrong for needing help. Please do better and teach your employees basic empathy.

Overall it was a good experience. The ERdoc was knowledgeable and through. The only two things I didn't like was how cold it was and secondly, there were not enough ER rooms and you were shuffled back and worth to the waiting room which didn't give you much privacy. That's why a 4 and not a 5 score was given

Nobody wants to go to the emergency room, but when you need to go. This is the place. Everybody is super nice and very accommodating makes you feel comfortable. Never had any issues in and out of there in a reasonable time for an emergency room. I feel safe taking myself and my family here when we have emergency

My second visit to the ER at Bethesda. Both times have been the best care I could ask for. Quick, professional and everyone is caring from the front desk to the Doctor. The facility was spotless. All questions I had were taken and explained in detail. Finally I really appreciated the suggestions for over the counter medicines for my issue. Feeling 100% today. Thanks Bethesda

I’m grateful for the nursing staff at Bethesda West, who were kind and supportive during a long visit. My concern is with the urologist who saw us around 230pm on Sunday (5/22). We had not met him before, and he entered the room at hour 11 of our time in the ER and introduced an additional diagnosis as if it were already known to us. This was the first time we were hearing it after many hours without clear communication about test results. His initial explanation…”a man of his age, one can assume” added to the confusion as it was unclear whether this was a confirmed finding or an assumption. I added that my father receives testing for that particular situation every three months, hoping he would understand our shock. Because the information was new to us, I asked whether this was based on imaging (CT was done ten hours prior but results were not shared) or if something had simply not been explained to us earlier. My question was about understanding a gap in communication, not about the doctor himself. However, he responded with, “well, that’s what I’m here to tell you now,” which felt dismissive and misinterpreted the intent of my question. When I continued trying to clarify, his answers shifted between implying it was supported by test results and attributing it to age, making it unclear what was actually confirmed. Later, after a physical exam, he described the condition as “not that bad actually,” which added to the inconsistency. When I raised the concern with staff, the focus shifted to defending the timing of the doctor’s arrival rather than addressing the actual question of where this diagnosis came from and why it had not been clearly communicated earlier. This further compounded the confusion. The issue was not timing - it was the lack of communication and the dismissive response when asking reasonable questions to understand new medical information. There was already a separate issue during admission where no one had confirmed the initial diagnosis he was being admitted for. Patients and families should be able to seek clarification without their questions being misinterpreted or dismissed. That did not happen in this interaction. I still don’t believe the urologist- that his new diagnosis had to do with the imaging since the imaging done isn’t used for that diagnosis typically. If someone has a question, maybe just listen to all of it. Mistakes are made and you should be glad when a patient or their family can be advocates for their health.
