Appalling and disgraceful experience at Quest. Do not go to Technology Dr in Trumbull.
I found out Friday afternoon that I needed blood work for surgery for cancer scheduled the following week. I went in as a walk-in/standby the next day at 10 AM (a full 2 hours before closing) because no appointments were available.
At 10:35 AM, a rude staff member opened the door and said that they would not be taking walk-ins. I walked up to her, not wanting to shout across the room, & explained that the bloodwork was just ordered & the doctor needs it right away for cancer surgery. I tried to appeal to her sense of humanity, unaware that she had none.
She told me to wait until 11 and see if things slowed down. I did so and on several occasions over the two hours I waited the room emptied out. Still no one came to get me or acknowledge my existence.
At 11:15 AM, I noticed the walk-in names disappeared from the screen. At 11:20 AM the same callous woman came out and asked if everyone waiting had an appointment. She knew I didn’t and I said no I couldn’t make an appointment given the late notice. She began yelling at me that she told me to leave earlier. Again I approached her not wanting to air my personal information to everyone. I once again explained that this was an urgent request from my doctor. That I require surgery as a result of a cancer diagnosis.
Displaying the same level of empathy as before (less than zero), she told me that she had somewhere to be at noon and couldn’t get to me. I began tearing up and said “please I’m begging you” and she responded “I’ll see if one of the other girls can take you” then shut the door in my face.
Back in the waiting room, the other patients were shocked and upset by the interaction. One sweet woman sitting next to me said she was next up and would offer up her spot to me. I told her that was kind but she too had been waiting and I didn’t want to put her out. Still, she insisted and when they took her I could hear her talking loudly with the staff member in the exam area. When she came back out, she apologized and said that she tried to convince them to take me in her place but they refused. I thanked her, hoping that was a sign they would take me once everyone else was done.
Again I waited. By 11:40 I was the only person in the waiting room. I saw the same rude woman standing in the doorway of her exam room looking at me through the glass but not coming to get me. Around 11:50, she came to the door and shouted at me again “WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE? I TOLD YOU WE WOULDN’T GET TO YOU!” I was too dumbstruck by her behavior to point out that in fact she told me that perhaps one of the other workers could take me. I again began crying out of fear and frustration from the situation.
I said please I’m not trying to be difficult, but this is urgent per my doctors. I have cancer and require surgery. She snapped that I should have made an appointment. I said I couldn’t. I found out the afternoon before and none were available. She then said “if it was truly so important then you should have arrived earlier” I said “I got here 2 hours ago.” And she cut me off to say “if it was that important to you, you should have come when we first opened.” I was shocked. I didn’t know how to explain to her that I came as early as my schedule would allow.
Again I said through sobs “please I’m begging you.” And she said “I have somewhere to be at 12:30 and everyone else has long drives home. I can’t do it. Maybe one of the other girls can.” Then from the back I heard their voices all shout “NO” in unison.
I sat there confused by the sheer callous behavior of a group of medical professionals who exhibited zero compassion or bedside manner. She made a face, threw her hands in the air as if I was being incredibly difficult, and turned around, letting the door shut behind her. I left in tears, completely shocked by the treatment I just endured.
I will never go back. This Quest requires serious training in compassionate care.
