- SGSheena Gleason3 days ago5.0We had another great experience at the Newington, CT NSM location today. Ron, the branch manager, was once again extremely helpful and flexible in working around my daughter’s college schedule so she could get the repairs that were ordered last month before we leave for Disney this Saturday. Mike, the senior technician, was absolutely fabulous and very focused on getting everything fixed properly once the parts came in. The repair wasn’t an easy task, but he took the time and care to make it work and made sure everything was functioning the way it should. Kelly was also very kind and polite to talk with while we were there. She made us feel welcome and even offered my daughter’s service dog some water while we waited, which was a very thoughtful gesture that we truly appreciated. We truly appreciate the effort, flexibility, and dedication from this team. Their kindness and willingness to help and make things work with our schedule means a lot to our family.

National Seating & Mobility is a member of your rehabilitation health care team. We work with your physician, nurses and therapists to provide a one-of-a-kind mobility solution customized to your needs and preferences. Because we work in a partnership with your health care team, we require a referral from them in order to be your mobility provider. To help ensure your choice of NSM, you should request that your physician and/or therapist select us as your provider of choice.
How long does it take to get a new power wheelchair from NSM?
NSM strives to complete each timeline phase as quickly as possible without compromising any step in the process. Please refer to this page for the full timeline. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
