Went in for what was supposed to be a quick eye exam. I submitted my insurance and info online 30 minutes before my appointment. When I walk in, they inform me that they received all my information, but they can’t figure out my insurance.. my career involves me billing insurance a lot, so I can understand somewhat, but I’m just told to wait while they figure it out. 20 minutes pass with little to no updates. I ask them is my insurance just out of network? The girl replies “I’m not really sure”. Not sure if the girl was just new? But I ended up not getting my eye exam because I didn’t want to pay out of pocket. I login to my insurance portal when I get back home and see that I have vision benefits under my medical insurance plan, and that they are indeed in network with Target Optical. I can understand if the girl in front was new, but even when she reached out to her superior for help, the superior didn’t really do much to help her / find a solution. The only answer(s) I really got is “we don’t know what’s going on. We can’t pull up your insurance (even with the physical card in front of them). And it appears you’re out of network, but we’re not really sure.”. The whole situation just felt very unprofessional and like no one knew what they were really doing. And finding out that my insurance is in fact in network later just makes me confused on why this situation was so hard for them.
