The transition of Dr. Bhagia's orthopedic practice to UCLA Health (also referred to as UC Regents, UCLA Health Orthopedic Surgery, or W.H. Orthopedic Surgery) has been a complete disaster. As a long-time patient of Dr. Bhaggia and Physician Assistant Jodi-Ann Williams, I have always received excellent care. However, since the practice was acquired in January, the quality of patient service has deteriorated significantly.
Several days prior to my last appointment, I was informed that I would be seen by a new doctor instead of PA Williams. I was assured that this provider was in-network with my insurance. On the day of the visit, the front desk collected my $35 specialist copay, again assuming the doctor was in-network. To my surprise, I later received a bill from UCLA Health for $210. Upon contacting my insurance, I was informed that the doctor I saw was out-of-network. Additionally, there is a pending charge of $1,085 for the same visit. After spending over five hours on the phone with both my insurance and UCLA billing, I received nothing but repeated apologies and no resolution.
According to my insurance, UCLA Health and its affiliated entities are not in-network. Dr. Bhagia, PA Williams, and another provider are in-network, but the doctor I was scheduled with is not. Even ARC, which no longer exists, remains listed as in-network also the building next door UCLA West Valley Medical Center is in-network. I have since canceled my upcoming appointment and looking for a new orthopedic provider.
To UCLA Health, UCLA Health Physician Services and UC Regents: if you expect to be paid, I recommend resubmitting the claim appropriately. I will not pay for services that were misrepresented as in-network. Furthermore, I urge your office manager to address the lack of training and awareness among front desk staff regarding insurance coverage--it is unacceptable and has caused undue stress and financial confusion.
I want to sincerely thank Dr. Bhagia and PA Williams for the outstanding care they provided to me and my wife over the years.
