I had a very frustrating experience at Target Optical. We normally see a different doctor there, but this visit felt rushed from the start. The doctor asked questions very quickly and often did not allow time to answer before moving on to the next one, which made the exam feel impersonal and uncomfortable. The bigger issue was with billing and insurance verification. Our insurance was never verified before the appointment, which the manager later admitted should have been done beforehand. We were charged $250 for the exam, which immediately seemed incorrect. I repeatedly told staff that the insurance they were trying to use did not sound like the one we have. After 30 minutes of going back and forth, I decided not to move forward because something didn’t feel right. My husband contacted his HR department and the insurance company directly, and they confirmed our correct coverage. When I called the office back, they initially said they could not find our insurance in their system. After I called again and provided the insurance phone number myself, they were suddenly able to locate it. When I asked about a refund for the $250 charge (our copay should have been $10), I was told they could not issue a refund because the exam had already been processed under different insurance. The problem is, we do not have any other insurance, so I'm not sure who they billed or how they calculated this? This situation should never have happened. Insurance verification should be done before the appointment (which was given the day before our appointment when they called to confirm), not after charging the patient the wrong amount. Because of how this was handled, I will also be filing formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the California Department of Consumer Affairs, and my insurance provider. I would strongly recommend that anyone going here confirm that they have the correct insurance on file before even starting the exam.

What a great experience! Dr Avak assured me that we would improve my vision with new bifocals, and I'm so excited to be able to see again. The process was efficient, effective, and very gentle. I felt cared for and listened to. Grateful for such a positive response from Dr Avak and staff. My lenses and frames are almost two years old and just not meeting my needs anymore. The vision test assured that my vision had gotten worse, and that there was clearly a better rx for my eyes!

Fast Service, Office personnel was very polite and professional. The doctor was very informative and explained everything during and after the exam. He also made the eye exam very comfortable. I definitely recommend Targer optometry to everyone.

It's an odd setup with no reception or queue - Optometry inside a Target. Weird, huh? It works, though having customers REPEATEDLY walk in and force themselves to be seen is off-putting in no small way. Blame the business or the customer? Both, lack or reception is the bigger concern. The optometrist is great. Can't say enough good things about him. The service the team provides also excellent. I kind feel for sorry for them. Whoever designed the space... failed. Anyway, 5 well-earned stars.
