Dr. Radjbar took a long time to see my boyfriend and put him in the ER with a room where there were holes in the walls! If you look more closely at the hospital environment it is actually shockingly disturbing and highly disgusting! They don’t act like they care at all about their patients or visitors! Totally been disrespectful at this hospital and I am a graduate from a healthcare background - Northwestern University and Johns Hopkins University!

Patient Safety & Discharge Concerns – UCLA Santa Monica I am sharing this as a factual account of my experience involving my sister, Christabel Marshall, during her hospitalization and discharge at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center on April 3, 2026. At the time of discharge, my sister had ongoing medical concerns involving her liver, kidneys, and heart, with pending test results and no clear continuity-of-care plan in place. I am her legally designated Power of Attorney (POA), with documentation completed in the ICU and provided to staff. Despite this, I was not consistently included in discharge coordination, and at times was told they did not have my POA on file. During discharge planning, social worker Luceen Manokian provided my sister with a list of homeless shelters while she was still hospitalized. I had already secured placement for her at a care facility in Granada Hills, which had been confirmed prior to discharge. When I asserted my role as POA, the situation escalated. My sister was told that if she did not leave the hospital, security could be called. During a speakerphone call, I was told that they did not need to go through me as POA. The call was then terminated. The attending physician, Dr. Gabrielle Neumann Horner, stated: “I think we’ve given you enough of a grace period to find placement.” When I raised concerns about my sister’s condition and pending test results, I was told: “I’ll be sure to document myself for protection.” Additionally, supervisor Jose Fabian stated that if my sister remained hospitalized until placement was finalized, I should expect to provide a large cash deposit, which raised concerns for me about financial pressure tied to medical care decisions. Multiple attempts were made to escalate concerns through hospital administration and patient relations prior to discharge. This experience was distressing and concerning from both a patient safety and discharge planning perspective. Formal complaints have been submitted to the appropriate oversight agencies, including the Medical Board of California, the California Department of Public Health, and The Joint Commission for review. I am sharing this experience so others understand the importance of advocating for their loved ones during discharge planning. I hope this encourages improvements in communication and patient safety.

My mother has now had two surgeries at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center over the past three years, and both experiences have been outstanding. Every single staff member we have encountered—from the physicians and nurses to the technicians and support staff—has been first rate. The level of professionalism, knowledge, and attentiveness throughout the hospital is truly remarkable. The teams are incredibly thorough, compassionate, and accommodating, and it’s clear that patient care is taken very seriously at every level. During stressful moments, the staff consistently took the time to explain things clearly, check in frequently, and ensure my mother was comfortable and well cared for. It genuinely feels like the “A team” works here. The coordination between departments and the overall attentiveness of the staff make a difficult experience much easier for patients and families. I can absolutely see why UCLA is considered the number one hospital in California. Our family is deeply grateful for the exceptional care my mother has received here.

My mother was recently hospitalized at UCLA Santa Monica Medical Center, and I just want to take a moment to recognize some of the incredible nurses who cared for her. Wei, Suyi, and Sunovia I truly hope I spelled your names correctly were absolutely amazing. My mother was very lucky to have them taking care of her. From the moment they arrived, they treated her with kindness, patience, and genuine compassion. What impressed me the most was how attentive they were. They didn’t just do their jobs they made my mother feel safe, respected, and cared for during a very stressful time for our family. Every question we had was answered with patience, and they always checked in to make sure she was comfortable. It’s not every day you encounter healthcare professionals who go above and beyond the way they did. Their professionalism and warmth made a huge difference for my mother and for all of us. Thank you, Wei, Suyi, and Sunovia, for the wonderful care you gave my mom. We will always be grateful.
