After going to see my physician in the UCLA Santa Monica location, she sent me down to the first floor to get an X-ray. I am in a wheelchair and among other things have some bladder issues. I needed to use the bathroom. I sat in front of the door waiting for the person inside to leave. It took me about five minutes to realize they were not coming out. So I went into the X-ray office with a totally empty waiting area, to see if I needed a key or if they had a bathroom I could use before getting my X-Rays ordered by my doctor. This next part is my fault: before I left home, i had taken my wallet out of my bag to read the numbers off my insurance card for another appointment. Turns out I left my wallet on the bed so I did not have it. Back to the X-ray people. They told me I needed an ID or Insurance card before they would give me the bathroom key. I asked if that meant I could not get my X-ray that day. The answer was that "yes" I could get the x-ray as long as I had all the details right like date-of-birth, social security, number , address, etc.and the computer would confirm my account. "Well, can I use the bathroom before the X-ray?" No, because you don't have an ID. I offered my wedding and engagement rings for collateral, my entire bag, my hearing aids and /or my cell phone. I am in a wheelchair and about to wet my pants. They are willing to do the X-ray and make the money from that but not let me use the toilet because that would be against the rules. I don't get it. It just seems illogical, unnecessarily bureaucratic, and frankly, cruel. If they had said I can't get the x-ray because I don't have my ID, at least the rules would have made some kind of consistent sense. At one point, the gentleman at the desk went back and asked someone whom I am assuming was his supervisor, who also said no. We left. I will go to another imaging place. The one at UCLA Westwood is great.
