    I had a mixed experience with The Perfect Workout. I’ll start with the highlight of my time there—working with Josh. He is an excellent trainer: knowledgeable, patient, and highly attuned to where I was in each movement. He consistently adjusted appropriately and created a sense of safety in the sessions. I only wish I had started my six-month training with him. When I first joined The Perfect Workout, I made it clear to my then-trainer that I wanted to avoid injury and progress slowly since it had been 5 years since I had done strength-based workouts. Unfortunately, during my first session with her, I strained my upper trapezius muscle after being pushed beyond my comfort level in weight. In later sessions, this trainer continued to encourage me to push myself with upper body machines despite my concerns and reminders to her that I was in pain and believed I needed to rest my muscle. After several tries assuming the trainer was more knowledgable than she actually was, I requested to limit our workouts to lower body only so my injury could heal. This trainer left after several weeks because she injured herself working out. Because of this, I strongly recommend requesting Josh and sticking with him. The consistency and level of attention and attitude of listening made a big difference. I was also disappointed there was no real acknowledgment or support from management after the injury, especially given the cost (~$600/month). After six months, I do feel stronger in my lower body. However, for the price and short sessions (20 minutes, twice a week), I didn’t experience the results suggested in their marketing and I decided to work 1:1 with a professional trainer who is an expert in functional movement as well as strengthening. In summary, if your primary goal is strength training and you can work with Josh, this may be a good fit. If you’re looking for a more comprehensive, functional approach with a strong emphasis on injury prevention, it may not be the best long-term option.

    Strength training is so important, especially when you get older. The Perfect Workout's plan/method is very good. 20 minute workouts are surprisingly enough. I've been going to the Mission Valley location for years (both the original spot and the new/current one). Tracy (manager/trainer), Riley (current trainer) and all the trainers are really good and keep your momentum going - even on your 'bad' days. Try them out.

    This is a great option for people who want results. Building muscle is important for me so I opted to try this system and it works. I am able to increase the resistance weekly and I leave every workout with tired muscles.
