It was a lady with big black glasses who decided to explain to me how things work “in Canada” — I’m unsure where she got the idea that I wasn’t Canadian, but as a POC, this felt targeted and racist. When I mentioned that that actually isn’t how things work “in Canada,” as I’d had a different experience in Ontario, she cut me off with, “No, listen to me. I said in Quebec.” When I corrected her, she finally managed to backtrack and apologise. In this 2 minute interaction, the employee was discriminatory, incorrect, and condescending all at once. Even at LensCrafters, a basic level of education goes a long way :) do better!
