Don't go. I was charged $500 for a video consultation for birth control. It was a 15 minute call and my doctor was 15 minutes late. They claim "Office visit level 2 is the lowest level of care" Excuse me? A very simple check up through a video call is FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS? You'll get scammed by getting here. Absolutely disappointed in the healthcare system here in California and UCLA.
Do not trust UCLA Health for preventive services. Like Charlotte Grady, I was incorrectly billed for mandatory, 100% covered preventive labs performed during an annual physical. To top it off, the actual physical exam was not comprehensive and parking cost money.
The Facts:
- The Service: Routine Annual Physical (preventive screening).
- The Error: UCLA Billing deliberately used a diagnostic ICD-10 code instead of the federally mandated preventive code Z00.00 on the lab services. This triggers the patient's deductible, turning a $0 bill into a liability.
- The Refusal: After being formally notified of this administrative error and the violation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the billing department refused to correct the claim, instead instructing me to petition my physician to amend the medical record.
This practice is designed to delay payment and force patients to pay for services that are legally required to be covered at no cost. Please avoid UCLA Health unless you are prepared to spend months fighting for basic regulatory compliance.

Please avoid. I highly suggest avoiding visiting UCLA Health Pasadena. I had a very simple primary care appointment with Dr. Swinburne in April, 20 minutes tops. Very general, an annual physical. I was told that my insurance was in network before I stepped into my appointment-- then was told a few weeks later that my specific Cigna plan actually doesn't cover this institution. I have finally received a bill for $1,155 for a 20 minute doctor check in. No primary care visit, with or without insurance, should be anywhere over $300.

I went here yesterday and Dr. Nguyen was amazing! Very nice facility with easy parking very close. All of their staff were very nice, caring, helpful, and knowledgeable. Glad I found a great place that takes my insurance.

I have sought care at UCLA for myself and my family since moving to California. I have always been pleased with the care and never had any issues. This morning I got held up at a neurologist appointment and was worried I might be late to my 10:30 primary care appointment with Dr. Nyguen. I had my husband call the office at 9:59 to see if I could push my appointment later and he was told they would "add a note that she is going to be late so the doctor knows it is not a no show" and to "just go to my appt after I'm done and they'd fit me in but there maybe an extended wait". They also told him there is no explicit no show policy - I understand this is incorrect but this is what your call center said. I finished my neuro appt at 10:29 and called the office to let them know I was rushing over and would be there in 20 mins. Again I was told "don't worry we will let the team know you're running late. We usually have a 15 minute grace period but since you're close it will be fine." I show up to the office and the waiting room is completely EMPTY. The front desk agent said she would call Dr. Nyguen and then proceeded to tell me I would not be able to be seen because I was out of the 15min window. Again there were no other patients in the waiting room. I explained that I called twice to reschedule and was told TWICE that I could still come and would be fit in. The staff members response was "we didn't get any of those calls because it goes to a call center." I ended up in tears because this lack of care and empathy for normal life circumstances is just wrong. UCLA, how am I supposed to know that your staff does not communicate with each other? The number that I called is the number listed for this office so it is imperative that your staff communicate. I am a nurse myself and understand that sometimes being late calls for a reschedule which is why I called TWICE to see if I could still be seen or needed to reschedule. I would've had no problem rescheduling but instead I rushed over in traffic because your staff said I could still be seen. So disappointed by this office and the rude front desk staff you chose to employ. This is unacceptable care and the communication issues within your office should never fall on the patient.
