Absolute heroes...
I had a pretty catastrophic flat tire on my mobility scooter recently. I wasn't terribly far from home, but there wasn't an easy way to *get* home, either. Between my multiple sclerosis and a broken foot just a few weeks prior, I was definitely down on my luck when the heavens opened up and a couple really good things happened. First, I got a ride the two or so blocks home with one of the nicest drivers ever, and second, I found out about and got in touch with National Seating and Mobility.
Now, the flat was on the weekend, so they were closed and I couldn't ask for a same-day repair appointment, but I wasn't in mortal peril or anything, so I called back as soon as they were open on Monday and made arrangements for an at-home service call.
Being nervous and anxious, I'm sure I couldn't have been too much fun to deal with on the phone, but everyone on the NSM team was so professional and friendly that it put me right at ease! Nancy at the switchboard, Sylvie in service, and Jake in sales — I'm so, *SO* sorry if I misspelled or misremembered any names, my memory is an awful lot like Swiss cheese now! — put a clear plan in place for me to get my whole wheel replaced since it was flatter than a pancake by the time I wrestled the poor old thing into my apartment.
Flash forward to today and Mark was an absolute genie. Courteous, professional, friendly, patient, kind... I can't say enough good things about the service I received today. I basically got my legs back since (especially with my foot in an AirCast) I can't go grocery shopping, or check my mail, or do much of ANYTHING without my scooter...
The problem was pretty easy to diagnose, but Mark went above and beyond, diagnosing another couple issues while he was there — fixing one with a change of washers that meant my *entire other wheel* wasn't going to come clean off its axle! — and by the time I waved goodbye and he was back on his way to home base, I was beyond elated.
I got some really helpful advice from a really caring and compassionate team, and I will *ABSOLUTELY* be calling them first from now on when it comes to maintenance and repairs of my poor old scooter I inherited from my late mother.
5/5 stars for SURE! If they can put up with *me* being a neurotic mess and do such a good job, then you'll be in amazing hands.

I do not recommend renting from National seating & mobility.
My story is a little bit lengthy but to summarize, the quality of the customer service are received was very poor. I rented a toilet seat on a Friday and when I got it home I couldn't get the locking device to work. I called the customer service to tell them this.
By this time it was late in the day....I was too exhausted to drive from downtown to their location your Bank and Heron. Their comment when I called them to inform them ... was "can you not find somebody exchange it for you". Im thinking like 'what!' next we were trying to figure out when the toilet seat could be picked up. They clearly knew my surgery was going to be on Monday.
I had a couple of hours that allowed me to call them on Monday morning to arrange pickup and the conversation was ridiculous. They treat you like as if you are a hundred years old. And they are very condescending. They told me that they would not refund my money. At this point I had the toilet seat in my possession just over the weekend. And...Their explanation as to why they're adding an extra $10 was ridiculous. My comment by that point in time was do you think I'm stupid.
After arguing with so called Customer service for about 10 minutes they finally gave in and said they would my rental fee.
( Also they do not take debit so I had to bring my sister in with me so I could use her credit card for the rental)
Needless to say I will never return to this organization for rentals.

The manager is terrible, they do not know how to deal with customer's in person about product/service issues. Very dismissive and uncaring. This is not the first instance where I have been in the store and seen this type of behaviour from management or even the sales staff talking about other customers and making fun of them. I want to add that no sales staff were on the floor they always sit at their desks when I have been in, chatting amongst themselves or are on their personal devices. Terrible customer service.

Why must I see a doctor to get a wheelchair from NSM?
Our clients have mobility challenges and are referred to us by therapists and physicians to receive mobility solutions that meets all their unique needs. If you need a wheelchair, your best plan is to talk with your physician or therapist and get a thorough evaluation from a qualified Rehab Technology Supplier (RTS).
What if my medical condition changes?
Contact your local NSM branch and notify us of any changes that may affect the proper fit and function of your chair.
Are there any dangers in using an off-the-shelf wheelchair?
Definitely. A standard or not customized chair can cause more harm than good. People come in all shapes and sizes; their chairs must be designed to fit them. In severe situations, a standard or not customized chair may:
- Cause significant physiological and psychological problems
- Lead to an increase in dependence because it’s not used due to lack of comfort
- Cause pressure sores, or decubitus, due to improper cushioning
- Become obsolete quickly if not configured to “grow with the child”
- Become a major expense to replace or reconfigure, because most funding sources will only reimburse for a new chair every five years.
Do I have a choice of which mobility solutions company to use?
The choice of a wheeled mobility supplier is yours. Discuss your decision with your physician and therapist.
