Club Pilates Barrhaven is a boutique Pilates studio specializing in reformer fusion classes for anyone, at any age or fitness level. Pure to Joseph Pilates’ original Reformer-based Contrology Method, but modernized with group practice and expanded state-of-the-art equipment, Club Pilates offers high-quality, life-changing training at a surprisingly affordable price.
As a newly postpartum mom, I joined somewhat reluctantly, knowing I had a 4-month-old at home and that life with a newborn is inherently unpredictable, illnesses, sleepless nights, feeding schedules, and last-minute changes are simply part of this season of life.
When the club first opened, I met with the owner, during a complimentary session to try the space and discuss membership options. During that conversation, I was very upfront about my situation and specifically raised concerns about the cancellation policy (I believe it was 12 hours’ notice or a fee). Based on that discussion, I left feeling reassured that there would be some understanding and flexibility given my circumstances.
Unfortunately, that understanding did not seem to carry through once I became a member.
On one occasion, my baby became unwell in the early hours of the morning, and I called to explain the situation, believing there had been prior acknowledgment from the owner about circumstances like this. The receptionist transferred me to the owner, who responded in a dismissive and condescending manner, saying, “Just because your baby is fussy doesn’t constitute waiving the cancellation fee,” without first hearing directly from me or the full situation. The interaction felt unnecessarily dismissive and invalidating, especially considering the initial conversation that led me to sign up in the first place.
That interaction really set the tone for the rest of my experience. As a new mom already navigating a vulnerable and demanding postpartum period, I did not feel supported or welcomed.
Additionally, there was one trainer whose consistently condescending attitude also negatively impacted my experience, although I understand she may no longer be with the club.
Overall, I believe fitness spaces like this should be more aware of and accommodating toward women who are postpartum. This is a uniquely demanding and unpredictable stage of life, and many new mothers are doing their best to prioritize their health and recovery while balancing the realities of caring for an infant. If certain accommodations or flexibility are not actually possible, that should be communicated clearly from the start rather than creating expectations that are later dismissed. Greater transparency and understanding would go a long way in making these spaces feel more supportive and trustworthy.
For all of the reasons outlined above, I ultimately decided that this club was no longer the right fit for me and chose to cancel my membership. I hope sharing my experience is helpful to any new mom considering joining, particularly those navigating the postpartum period and looking for a space that offers both transparency and understanding.
Just my two cents.

Very bad experience. Very expensive. Bad policies. You get penalized by wanting to cancel your membership even though your 3 months commitment was met. And when you asked for your membership to get freeze they still charge you a monthly fee. You cannot also cancel when your account is frozen. So meaning whatever you do, wether you like their services or not you need to pay. They won’t even explain to you about their cancellation policy. The knly thing they say is ITS ON YOUR CONTRACT!! Don’t they suppose to explain those before they let you sign??

If you’re thinking about joining Club Pilates Barrhaven, I urge you to pull the trigger. The instructors are so knowledgeable. The classes are tailored so that you’re not just doing the same 4 moves over and over again. The instructors are excellent at reading the room and adjusting the class to suit every single attendee. I’ve also never had issues booking my classes. Yes they fill up, but if you’re booking at least a week in advance then odds are you’ll get a spot. Plus I’ve made it off the waitlist for nearly every class that was full! So no issues there.
I’ve noticed a HUGE difference in my core strength, posture, stability and aesthetically. Highly recommend!
